Chet Holmgren’s Disappointment With 2K27 45 Strength Rating Baffles Fans – “He Lucky He Ain’t a 45 Overall”

Chet Holmgren is going to be tasked with a lot more responsibility as the retooled Oklahoma City Thunder work towards fighting for titles.

Before the next NBA season, Chet Holmgren and his peers work with 2K Games to improve their facial scans and other details before the next edition releases.

Every game is timed to release close to the start of the next season, which also coincides with the final games of the WNBA’s regular season. That way, the company not only gets its purchasers interested, but also gives them a chance to play along with their preferred teams and players.

The game was not doing that well in the late 2010s and early 2020s, when fans complained of no major improvements and accused the company of charging top dollar for a lightly refurbished product.

But the past few editions have been exceptional and have renewed interest in the gaming franchise. This year’s cover features Victor Wembanyama, former Chicago Bulls great Derrick Rose, and WNBA superstar Caitlin Clark.

The company hopes the trio will help it reach record sales. However, to do that, the game also has to be on point. If complaints such as the ones Kevin Durant and Draymond Green had about their midrange ratings persist, 2K will be forced to issue ratings updates.

Sports Illustrated’s Claudette Montana caught up with a few of the players at the 2K27 early-access launch event on August 26th and asked them to name a stat each that the company got right and wrong.

45 strength is crazy.

While saying this, the Oklahoma City Thunder almost broke out in surprised laughter. That statistic even left Montana chuckling. No wonder Chet Holmgren felt that way, considering that 45 happens to be one of the lowest strength ratings in the league.

Fans remind Chet Holmgren of his struggles

Once news of Chet Holmgren being disappointed with his 2k27 strength rating reached social media, fans were baffled. They asked why the game felt wrong to depict him that way, considering almost every other former athlete has been asking him to put on bulk.

Others reminded him that the lack of strength is why he avoided battling his rival, Victor Wembanyama, in the Western Conference Finals. Fans left this and many other messages online, examples of which are below.

Chet Holmgren was right to point out that his block rating might be a bit low. But there is no denying his strength is very low, especially for a post player. In fact, after Wembanyama bulked up over the past offseason, he should have followed suit, and that is what fans reminded him of.

Chet Holmgren needs to improve if the Thunder are to find value

After that Western Conference Finals debacle, many asked the Oklahoma City Thunder to trade away Chet Holmgren. They felt that it was better if the team focused on starting Isaiah Hartenstein, who showed a willingness to battle Victor Wembanyama.

They also felt that it was better for the team to use the millions they pay the Gonzaga alum to keep their important players. However, the team has shown no inclination to listen to those complaints.

Rather, they are fully aware of how well the 24-year-old performed until that point. The Thunder hope the center continues his progression.

If Chet Holmgren struggles again against Wembanyama or other big men in the league, then the franchise may not find the value in keeping him on that monster contract. After all, they just traded away a few impactful players to allow them to continue paying their Big 3.
