Ever since 2K Games made WNBA players a priority on their officially licensed basketball game, fans have been demanding that they make Caitlin Clark their cover athlete.

Since the 24-year-old stepped foot in the league, her fans have been labeling her as the one who will turn the fortunes of the WNBA around. So far, she has done so, but getting a 2K cover is reserved for some of the best players in the league.

That is why the game production company made Candace Parker its inaugural cover athlete. Being a three-time champion and legend of the game made that decision sensible.

In the next edition, they made A’ja Wilson the cover athlete. Again, it was justified, since she was without a doubt the best women’s basketball player in the world by a huge margin.

But when the production house chose Angel Reese as its cover athlete, fans lost their minds. They questioned the company’s decision, given that she was associated with a losing team, making her individual accomplishments irrelevant.

Now, they have corrected course. They decided to make Caitlin Clark the cover athlete of its 2K27 edition alongside Victor Wembanyama and Chicago Bulls legend Derrick Rose.

Her fans should be happy that the Spurs big man gets to be the regular game’s cover athlete, whereas Rose dons the Ultra Edition. Clark becomes the first women’s basketball player to be the cover athlete for the Deluxe Edition,

Fans lose their minds after Caitlin Clark becomes 2K27 cover athlete

Naturally, the moment this news dropped, fans had to race to social media to express their satisfaction at watching one of their favorite players become the cover athlete of a globally popular game.

Moreover, many were happy that Caitlin Clark finally gets the attention she deserves, especially when they believe that the WNBA and its media partners have proved on countless occasions that they do not value her.

Rapper Kid Cudi, who has been enamored by the superstar point guard’s play ever since he saw her FIBA qualifiers MVP highlights, led fans in showing their excitement towards the game. Check out examples of those reactions below.

Apart from the excitement, some fans pointed out that the cover photo does not do Caitlin Clark justice. They believe she looks a bit too muscular in it, despite shedding most of the bulk she gained ahead of last season.

Caitlin Clark continues to dominate viewership ratings

If Caitlin Clark‘s naysayers wanted to criticize NBA 2K’s decision, they could not do so looking at the stats she has been putting up this season. Then, those who claimed last year that the WNBA had proved that they can draw the numbers without her might have to rethink their logic.

The WNBA has witnessed five games this season where more than 1.7 million viewers tuned in. All those games happened to be when the Iowa native was battling on the floor.

That was on legacy media networks, which usually draw a lot more than newcomer Amazon Prime Video. They had been averaging 439,000 viewers this season before the 2026 edition of the WNBA’s Commissioner’s Cup Final.

That game drew an abysmal 403,000. Sure, it did not feature A’ja Wilson. But despite the presence of Sabrina Ionescu and Breanna Stewart, the game could not beat the company’s average.

That average, though, rose after Prime Video showcased two games featuring Caitlin Clark. Per Sportsmediawatch, her battle against Angel Reese’s Atlanta Dream drew 816,000 viewers.

Then, the Fever’s matchup against the Sky involving the dynamic point guard averaged 736,000. These two games managed to increase the streaming giant’s average to 504,000 viewers, proving her impact.
