Over the past few weeks, it has been nothing but negativity when anyone mentioned Caitlin Clark and the WNBA. Controversy after controversy filled every medium where the two were discussed, and at some point, people were getting exhausted by it.

It came to the point where basketball was no longer the point of debate. Rather, it was about the officiating and how the league should do more to protect the player, which happens to be the primary reason for its incredible growth.

On the other hand, there were those who felt as if Clark was becoming a distraction. They cited how anything related to her brings along massive negativity, which at this point was overshadowing whatever good she was doing.

Even NBA Commissioner Adam Silver labeled her as becoming a ‘political football,’ where people from both sides were using her name to create narratives of their choice.

A week ago, Clark slammed both mainstream and social media for creating narratives using her name. She pointed out how some were flat-out incorrect and were just being created to draw attention.

In the midst of this, when her on-court performances were not matching up to her hype, critics were adding the layers to their narratives. That could be counted as the fuel that motivated the Iowa native when she went ballistic against the Seattle Storm earlier.

The point guard erupted for 45 points, and also dished out 10 assists, while also notching four steals and two blocks. With those numbers, she set the record for most points while handing out 10+ assists and also set a new franchise record for most points in a game.

Fans lose their minds after Caitlin Clark’s stunning performance

For the past few games, Caitlin Clark had been on a minutes restriction as she was still working her way back from a back injury. In this game, head coach Stephanie White again imposed the restriction, which meant she would only play 29 minutes.

That is what stunned fans even more, as she managed to score that much in that little amount of time. When Marina Mabrey matched the single-game scoring record this season, she needed to play a lot more minutes to do so.

Sure, Clark’s end score was eight points fewer, and she needed a lot more free throws. But even then, fans marveled at what she could do in just that much time. They filled social media with those reactions, examples of which are below.

Many fans used this opportunity to remind Caitlin Clark’s haters that her hype was not fake. These performances should be a reminder of what she can do with the ball in her hands. They felt that it was also a slap-in-the-face response from the Hawkeyes’ great to her peers who voted her the 11th-best guard in the league.

Caitlin Clark was going to give her head coach an earful if she did not get more minutes

Caitlin Clark is still not 100% fit, as is evident from the consistent injury reports she finds her name in every game. However, in this game, with her feeling a hot hand, she was not going to sit around with her Fever trailing.

Steph knows better than that. (The) trainers know better than that. They would get an earful… There was no way I was ever coming out of the game in the fourth quarter.

Caitlin Clark said

She said this in response to James Boyd‘s question whether there was a chance she was not going to be allowed to return to the court after surpassing 25 minutes. Clark made it clear that she was going to play on one leg if needed, as nothing could hold her back to ensure her team won this game.
