NASCAR introduced the new rules package for Superspeedway last Saturday at Daytona and the drivers had mixed feelings about it. The objective of changes was eliminating fuel saving and making it easy to pass. The spoiler height was reduced from 7” to 4” and the horsepower was reduced from 510 to 465.
Joe Gibbs Racing veteran Christopher Bell, who finished the race at P17 after some tough battles, shared his thoughts on how the package affected racing last week. He was very blunt, claiming that the reduction in HP only made fuel saving more prevalent and insisted that the sport hasn’t figured out a way to fix the fundamental issue.
It turned into even more fuel saving and we just haven’t figured it out yet.
Christopher Bell said post-race.
The TRD teammate of Christopher Bell, Legacy Motor Club’s Erik Jones shared his thoughts on the new rules. He insisted that the rules changed made things worse on the track and called it a bummer. The veteran admitted that the race didn’t get any better, asserting that they failed to make it easy to pass and NASCAR needs to go back to the drawing board to find a solution.
Unintended consequences, more fuel saving than ever. We took so much power away that we could make every stage. Kind of a bummer. I didn’t think the racing was any better. It was still super hard to pass and the cars just drove more terrible. Back to the drawing board.

Hendrick Motorsports’ William Byron also shared similar thoughts about the new Next-Gen rule package. He highlighted how the additional drag caused by the underwing and the reduction in the power made it tough for the racers to have an impact.
I think the underwing creates so much drag on these cars, and it just, I don’t know, there isn’t a lot of power either.
William Byron asserted.
Chase Briscoe disagrees with his teammate and insists the package made racing better
Joe Gibbs Racing’s Chase Briscoe had a sportive response to the new NASCAR rule package. He insisted that the racing was much better compared to previous Next-Gen era events and asserted that the racing played out how they should at the track.

I thought the package was way better. Who knows if there’s still more to go, but I thought compared to what we had, it was really good. You could make moves and make passes. It was more like traditionally how you would race here.
Chase Briscoe said.
But he did point out that there were still times during the race where drivers didn’t go all out to save fuel and that needs to be addressed. It would be interring to see how everything is going to playout for the star driver in the coming days.
