The 2026 NASCAR Cup Series season so far hasn’t been kind to Bubba Wallace. The 23XI Racing consistently had some of the fastest cars of the season in race weeks and still failed to deliver results. Tyler Reddick won five races, and part-time teammate Corey Heim won twice while the No:23 Toyota failed to make it to the victory lane in over a year.

The veteran’s season can be defined in one word as a roller coaster ride and that’s has been the case for the driver his whole career. He shared his frustration about this factor while taking to the media ahead of the first playoff race of the 2026 season, Darlington. The only positive the TRD driver has about the season is he made into the last-16 based on points scored and not because he won one odd race.

For me, part of it has been the same old ****, different day kind of mentality, but being able to manage it a little bit better has made it less of a roller-coaster ride as you mention. Still the frustrations of having fast cars with **** results, that is still there.  Falling tremendously in the points, getting back on the cut line. All of that stuff, kind of hit the replay button, but kind of how you went through it has changed.

Bubba Wallace said ahead of the Darlington race week.

Later Bubba Wallace shared more of his frustration by pointing out that he should have been in the top 7 in points in the regular season instead of the top 14 he finds himself in. They are good enough to win races considering TRD’s form in the season and asserted that they need to execute well to get in the victory lane.

I think this year, where we are at, the 14th seed, it was like we are good enough to be top-seven, so the stress of, am I going to be in or am I not, no, we are good enough. If we go out and execute, and finish second like we did in Loudon, all of that stuff, if we do our things right, it should happen.

Bubba Wallace added in a video shared by Peter Stratta.

Later in the same conversation, the veteran also talked about the pressure on his shoulders. He admitted that he is really nervous about how his maiden Chase is going to playout and he trying to get over it in order to be more productive.

Yeah, when you’re in the Chase, it’s like, all right. You know, that flow of nerves kind of settles in. Whether it’s a lot or a little, it still settles in. You can’t ignore the fact that the nerves are there.

Bubba Wallace asserted.

While Wallace is facing the pressure of chase, his boss and the championship leader Denny Hamlin is under another massive pickle. He has been struggling with shoulder issues since the injury and surgery in 2024. The last few months the injury has affected him a bit and as it has made his post-race recovery harsh.

It’s bothered me a little bit more over the last month or so. And we’ll look at it in a month to kind of see where it’s at.  But obviously need to get it worked on and get it fixed for sure. Inside the car, it doesn’t really bother me. It’s more afterwards and for the next few days after that.

Denny Hamlin said about the injury.

The comments from the Joe Gibbs Racing veteran shows how much he is working hard behind the scene to remain as the best driver in the garage at the age of 45. It would be interesting to see how the last 10 races of the season are going to playout for Hamlin and Wallace, who are under different pressures.
