The 2026 NASCAR Cup series season hasn’t been kind to Bubba Wallace. He finished the regular season winless despite having fast cars, with his teammates Tyler Reddick and Corey Heim winning multiple races. With the P14 finish in the table, he was the worst placed Toyota to make the chase, as every other TRD drivers are inside the top-6.
The veteran had the opportunity to win multiple races with the car advantage, but mistakes in days where he had the best car came to bite them. In the conversation with Jordan Bianchi and Jeff Gluck on the special pre-Chase episode of The Teardown podcast, he admitted that it’s unacceptable that going into Darlington this Sunday, he has 90-point deficit to championship leader Denny Hamlin.
Obviously Toyotas have been super strong this year. What I see in that is I’m the lowest-ranked Toyota, which is unacceptable because look at everybody else. I look at all the ground we need to make up to put ourselves in the category.
Bubba Wallace said ahead of Darlington race.
Further talking about the point, Bubba Wallace asserted that his goal in the upcoming ten races is straight forward, he wants to finish better than the P14 he is in right now. The veteran then predicted that he is confident that the No:23 Toyota Camry team is going to go on a generational run in the chase.
The five-second answer is finishing better than 14th. But I have this feeling that we’re going to make a generational run here. Starts with confidence.
Bubba Wallace added via The Teardown podcast.

In the same conversation later, he explained the behind the confidence. He highlighted how the No:23 team have the car advantage as well as the advantage of having a solid crew. The chase tracks are also historically been kind to him and he could’ve had wins in most of them if not for bad execution.

Yeah. I mean, I look at the opportunities that we have. We have the people, we have the cars, and it starts with mentality, not trying to do anything extra cute or fancy. It’s just going out and executing. We’ve been to a lot of these places; the results won’t show it from the spring, but we were fast as hell.
Bubba Wallace said.
Most of the success 23XI hoping to secure in the chase would depend on how much better Wallace can perform when the moment demands it. He needs to be calm and composed with his decision making on as well as off the track to be successful.
I know what I need to do better, and the team knows what they need to do better. Just putting that together…A lot of good opportunities. So, when the opportunity box is open, you can either get greedy, or you can be methodical about it.
Bubba Wallace added.
The comments from the 23XI Racing veteran are on point and he needs to be selectively greedy regarding being aggressive to succeed in the chase. It would be interesting to see how everything is going to playout for the star driver in the coming days.
