Kim Clijsters recently addressed remarks by Alexander Zverev about his rival, Carlos Alcaraz, following his US Open quarterfinal defeat to Ben Shelton. Zverev had openly discussed how Alcaraz’s and Frances Tiafoe‘s playing strategy cost them in their match against the left-hander.
Clijsters weighed in on these statements by analyzing the psychological mindset required to compete against explosive players like the Spaniard. She noted that public commentary between top-tier competitors often highlights the subtle tactical rivalries brewing behind the scenes on the ATP Tour. Clijsters said on her Love All Podcast:
I mean, first of all, very interesting that he was that open about it. That he opened up about those kinds of tactics, because in the past, we’ve heard him and a lot of other people talk about that he needs to be more aggressive, and that he’s maybe too passive in certain times, especially against those big players. So the fact that he shared that is very, very interesting.
Turning to playing styles, Clijsters admitted she finds it hard to relate to Zverev’s deliberate tactical approach. During rallies, the Belgian champion often finds herself mentally urging players to step inside the baseline and attack aggressively. She added:
There are a lot of players, especially on the women’s side, who are so good at the lateral movement and can run side to side and keep the rally going shot after shot, but from the moment that there is a little bit of variety in the front and backwards movement, some players don’t like to get thrown off rhythm like that.
Consequently, Zverev’s calculated style requires a level of patience that contrasts sharply with her own attacking on-court instincts. Despite these tactical differences, she expressed deep admiration for his supreme mental control and composure under pressure.
Alexander Zverev joins the Grand Slam elite
Alexander Zverev secured his second major singles title of the year by defeating American hopeful Ben Shelton at Flushing Meadows. The German world No. 2 captured a four-set victory with a score of 6–3, 7–6(2), 5–7, 6–2 in the final.

This triumph adds the US Open crown to the maiden Grand Slam title Zverev won earlier in the season at the French Open. With 25 Grand Slam match victories in a single calendar year, he joins an elite tier matched this century only by the Big Three.
Zverev’s accomplishments now include an Olympic gold medal, seven Masters titles, and multiple major trophies. His stellar record against left-handed opponents further demonstrates his consistency and status among the upper echelon of the sport.
Reflecting on his journey after years of near-misses and injury setbacks, Zverev emphasized that his 2026 success represents the culmination of relentless hard work. He stands firmly alongside the all-time greats as a multi-time major champion.
Jannik Sinner and the Juan Carlos Ferrero rumors
Wild rumors have begun circulating across the tennis world, suggesting that Juan Carlos Ferrero could join Jannik Sinner‘s coaching team. Ferrero recently confirmed his return to coaching on the ATP Tour for the 2027 season without initially revealing his future player.

Reports originating from Argentina indicate that Sinner may have discussed potential collaboration options during the Cincinnati Masters 1000. Because Darren Cahill is scheduled to leave Sinner’s team at the end of the season, a vacancy for a top-tier mentor is opening up.
A partnership between Sinner and Ferrero would unite the world No. 1 with a coach who famously guided Carlos Alcaraz to multiple major titles. Such a development would instantly create one of the most high-profile alliances in modern professional tennis.
While neither Sinner nor Ferrero has issued an official confirmation, the speculation continues to gain momentum. Observers will have to wait for formal announcements to see if this blockbuster coaching partnership materializes for next year.
