There was a time when LeBron James was very careful with the endorsement deals he selected, as they were crucial to the brand he was building when he was still on course to prove his high school hype.

The brands he teamed up with played a major part in building his legacy and his fortune. For someone who grew up with little, it was a major departure into a life filled with luxury.

Over the course of his 23 seasons in the NBA, James became the first active athlete to become a billionaire. At this point, many felt that it would be enough.

But anyone who makes money doesn’t stop, especially when they know their chances of continuing to rake in more money shrink with every day they edge toward retirement.

Not everyone gets a $375 million media broadcast deal as NFL great Tom Brady did. Even though there are rumors that the four-time NBA champion could enter the broadcasting world, the way he wants to live his retirement life might keep him away from it.

Therefore, he has to find other avenues to make his money. This season, his new team is paying him ‘just’ $4 million. Even though Nike and his other sponsors pay him enough, the Akron native did not hesitate to take a $15 million paycheck from prediction company Polymarket.

After the announcement drew backlash, it seems it did not affect LeBron James. The four-time league MVP was back on social media to promote this week’s NFL game predictions and bets.

Fans tear into LeBron James for promoting betting

Usually, active players and betting are a big no-no. The NBA and NFL have suspended or banned players who take part in it. But in this instance, LeBron James is not betting on games. Rather, he is promoting betting for a company that is paying him nearly four times what he will make playing basketball this season.

However, fans were upset that the King was doing so using his personal accounts, indicating that he is pulling no punches to promote a controversial aspect of today’s sports. They took to social media to call out the 41-year-old forward, examples of which are below.

It is not as if this is LeBron James’ first rodeo with betting sites. Before signing with Polymarket, the league’s all-time leading scorer partnered with DraftKings. However, fans felt that this was taking it too far, posting from his personal pages when such activity should be restricted to that of the betting platform.

LeBron James hypes Raptors celebrating Kyle Lowry’s career

LeBron James is moving closer to retirement. When that will come is a question for a different day, but his actions so far indicate that he wants to hang up his sneakers by ending all the supposed ‘beef’ he had with some players and personnel.

Showering Russell Westbrook with praise on his retirement announcement came out of the blue. That was because many felt that the point guard somewhere blamed his former teammate for essentially destroying his career.

Their families may have helped to sort out that long-standing mess, but fans were happy to see that James made the first move to bury the hatchet. Now, he continues that trend of shouting out former players when he hyped Kyle Lowry.

The guard announced his retirement this offseason and has since been making a presence in Toronto, Canada, after the Raptors felt that they needed to celebrate his career. That caught James’ eye, and he reposted stills from that event on his page.
