There are not many players in NBA history who have played for just one team throughout their career, let alone achieved the accolades of Stephen Curry with the Golden State Warriors. The guard has completed 17 seasons with the Dubs.
The Warriors drafted him with the seventh pick in the 2009 NBA Draft. After early injuries, he went on to lead one of the greatest dynasties in league history from 2015 to 2019.
Curry has been the centerpiece of the franchise and broken a number of franchise records during his career. He has transformed the organization on and off the court and helped lift four championships.
With Curry eligible for a two-year, $136.7 million contract extension, he made it clear that he does not want the unsettled contract extension to become a distraction as the new season approaches.
I don’t want there to be no drama. No talking points. This team should be competitive and go win. It’s going to happen at the right time, once I have all the information I need to make the decision that is right. If I don’t sign, it won’t affect me in terms of my play or carrying that weight. But I’ll make the decision when I’m ready.

Curry has carried the Warriors like never before. While he is yet to put pen to paper regarding his extension, he has made it clear that he would want to end his career with the Warriors.
The 38-year-old was riddled with injuries this year and was restricted to just 43 appearances but, he still averaged 26.6 points, 3.6 rebounds and 4.7 assists. Despite the uncertainty, Curry remains as motivated as ever with just a month to go for the 2026-27 campaign.
Fans react to Stephen Curry keeping it real on ongoing contract negotiations with Warriors
Stephen Curry will be heading into his 18th season in the NBA, which will also be his 18th season with the Warriors. His impact and influence with the Dubs is second to none, and he has earned it over the years.

The problem is that he has a front office that won’t give him any help beyond washed Jimmy Butler and extending Draymond. That’s all while forgetting that Kerr is useless. It’s time for him to explore other options.

Bro just leave the franchise just the fake loyalty gimmick and just do what’s best for you. If you stay don’t get mad when you go out like Kobe his final years in LA

Golden State is not even negotiating with Stephen Curry. They handed him a menu and said pick. That is what 4 rings and 17 seasons without once asking out buys you. Look at how many superstars of his era forced their way somewhere else. Steph never did.

While Curry reiterated that he wants no drama heading into the new season, fans believe that the unsettled contract extension will create drama till he signs it. Meanwhile, some believe that he should leave the team as they have not surrounded him with a championship-level roster.
The ball is in Stephen Curry’s court
Stephen Curry has earned the right to do whatever he feels best after everything he has achieved in Golden State. However, the Warriors front office has done a poor job in surrounding him with the right players to compete for a championship.

Since winning his fourth championship in 2022, Curry and the Warriors have made it to the second round of the playoffs twice and missed the playoffs twice, including this year. They have not made any “needle-moving” acquisitions this summer either, after missing out on LeBron James in free agency.
NBA insider Shams Charania said the ball is in Curry’s court on his contract.
The ball is totally in Stephen Curry’s court. They have given him a slew of options to take. He has one-year deals, two-year deals, max deals, slightly under the max. But another option that Curry has, not contractually right now, is potentially waiting into the season or waiting until next off-season when the Warriors, if Curry waits, would have about $100 million in cap space.

The Warriors expect Curry to finish his career in Golden State, but it remains to be seen when and what deal he decides to take. With the Warriors far from contenders as presently constructed, an important season awaits Stephen Curry and the Dubs.
