Emma Raducanu has been out of action since the Queen’s Club Championships. She reached the final and lost the title to Donna Vekic and later withdrew from the Nottingham Open.

Later reports emerged that she has been dealing with a stress fracture in her lower right leg, and it eventually forced her to withdraw from Wimbledon and the US Open. During her injury hiatus, Raducanu told Uniqlo that she has read Andre Agassi‘s Open and was intrigued by the way he got out of his slump by creating his own training regimen.

The American is in London for the Laver Cup, which is set to start on September 25. There, he sat for an interview with BBC Breakfast, where he was asked about Raducanu’s comments about his autobiography.

It’s wonderful to hear that anybody can relate. It was literally the hope that if one person read it and it gave them hope, some tools to understand that they’re not alone, they can figure it out and get to a healthier place without having to direct their frustrations at the game of tennis, then it was a success for me. So, hearing that 17 years later it can still impact somebody, especially in this game, it does make me feel good.

The autobiography, co-written with Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist JR Moehringer, has sold over one million copies worldwide. During that interview, Agassi was also asked whether he had any advice for the 23-year-old.

I would encourage her to focus on being the best of herself on a daily basis, but don’t judge that by results or thinking that somehow you have to be 100%.

Agassi made his Laver Cup debut last year, captaining Team World, which beat Yannick Noah‘s Team Europe 15 – 9. This season, Team World has Alex de Minaur, Taylor Fritz, Learner Tien, Brandon Nakashima, Alexander Bublik, Francisco Cerundolo, and Ignacio Buse. Noah will be captaining a team featuring Carlos Alcaraz, Alexander Zverev, Flavio Cobolli, Rafael Jodar, Jakub Mensik, Casper Ruud, and Arthur Fery.

Emma Raducanu revisits her fairytale run at the 2021 US Open

At the 2021 US Open, Emma Raducanu became the first qualifier in the Open Era to win a Grand Slam title without dropping a set. In her interview with Uniqlo, Raducanu reminisced about that victory.

I was a bit stunned myself, since I was eighteen at the time. I’m not sure I fully understood the way this fit in with the Grand Slam. It’s led to more chances and connections than I could ever have imagined. It’s like a dream, though the expectations and the judgment have got more and more intense.

Since winning that Major, Raducanu has yet to win another title. She has played two finals since that win, however, both this year. After losing the Winners Open to Sorana Cirstea, she lost to Donna Vekic at the Queen’s.

At times it’s been a heavy load. I’ve learned all kinds of things, and I’m much stronger than before. I’m still growing, of course. I guess you could say I’ve gained the power to face whatever’s coming next.

Raducanu won’t be competing at the WTA 1000 China Open in Beijing due to the injury. Amanda Anisimova is the reigning champion, but she is now nursing an injury, so her participation is uncertain.

Elena Rybakina will compete as the first seed. The Kazakh ace recently lifted the third Grand Slam title of her career by defeating Aryna Sabalenka in the US Open final. Neither of them has won a title in Beijing. Rybakina is a one-time semifinalist, while the Belarusian ace is a three-time quarterfinalist.
