The NASCAR Cup Series race on Sunday at Kanas Motor Speedway witnessed absolute dominance from Kyle Larson, who won the race sweeping all three stages. Only one racer gave him a real fight for the race win and that was Chase Briscoe, who held the 23 of the last 30 laps before getting beaten.
The Joe Gibbs Racing driver us beyond disappointed with the results, as he thinks the No:19 team deserved to end the day with a race win that would have boosted their championship hopes. But he ended the race at P4, after hitting the wall multiple time following Larson overtaking him with seven laps left in the race.
I thought I was really good there and was able to turn down on him before the green flag pit stop, and thought I was definitely better there. He was just blocking so much, I couldn’t really get by there … We pitted and I ran him back down, and when I passed him as easily as I did, I thought I was gonna just run away with it.
Chase Briscoe said post-race.
The No:19 racer had the race in his control, as he had the pace and only had to keep his rival on the back for a handful of days. But unfortunately, the No:5 Chevy of Kyle Larson was too good for him at the end. If Chase Briscoe was able to find a better balance with the car, the result could’ve been much better.
And then, I just started getting really, really, really free — was just hanging on for dear life and just too many laps there at the end. I needed it to be obviously a short race to kind of be able to hold on, so yeah, I just wish I had a little bit tighter balance at the end.

Later in the same conversation, the racer admitted that in the final laps, he started getting lose and being too desperate at the end dropped him from P2 to P4. Losing the win has dropped him from the championship contention, as he is now P8 in the table, over 150 points behind the championship leader.
I just started kind of letting loose and just running as hard as I could, and got into the wall and obviously went from second to fourth. Just went into desperation mode, truthfully. I had to win to kind of stay in contention for the championship and came up short.
Chase Briscoe asserted.
Chase Briscoe frustrated with Kansas result
Further talking about the result, the veteran asserted that it’s frustrating that they couldn’t secure the race win and the desperation made it more painful. Larson won the race because he was more aggressive and unpredictable than the JGR driver.

Just frustrating. I feel like in a lot of these late-race situations, I’ve always been able to kind of hold on and clutch it out and just wasn’t able to do that, so frustrated with myself. Playing it back in my mind, (I could have) been a little bit more aggressive just changing lanes and being unpredictable, kind of like what he was doing when he was in the lead. He did an amazing job.
Chase Briscoe said.
If Briscoe can’t secure a race win and another solid point paying race in the next two weeks, he would be eliminated from the championship chase. It would be interesting to see how everything is going to playout for the star driver in the coming days.
