23XI Racing’s Bubba Wallace had a tough day at Kansas Motor Speedway, as he had to settle for a P9 finish at the track he came with hopes of a victory. One key reason for the disappointment was the lap 122 wreck involving Carson Hocevar.

On the restart, the No:23 Toyota was spun put from the back following the No:6 and No:54 car’s contact with the No:77. It ruined the momentum for the TRD team and they had fight back to secure a top-10 finish. Assessing the situation, the veteran refused to single out a racer for the drama and called it a racing incident.

Yeah, I was gonna shoot top in front of the 22, but he kind of blocked it. So, it’s good. I was just gonna maybe look at the middle. By the time I thought of that, I was already turned. Just to me, it looks like the 77 just hooked a right into the 54.  But it is what it is.

Bubba Wallace said post-Kansas race.

Further talking about how the race played out for him, the TRD driver admitted that they had the pace to produce a strong run before the momentum was taken away from them after the incident. In the words of Bubba Wallace, they were a B plus team on Sunday.

I mean, obviously lost potential, but in the last two runs of the race, we were really fast. So maybe it knocked some good into it. I’m not sure.  I hate it for our Xfinity team. But, man, when we showed up, we were B plus at best.

Bubba Wallace gives his assessment on 23XI Racing’s Kansas performance

All three 23XI Racing cars were expected to produce a strong run at Kansas considering how they have been the team to beat at the venue in the Next-Gen era. Unfortunately, they didn’t match the high bar they have previously set for themselves.

And I think that was the ceiling for all three of our cars, which is unfortunate, at a place where everybody in the shop, everybody at Airspeed, gets excited to come here. We just didn’t deliver. So, we got to do better. We all hold ourselves to higher standards than what we produced today.

Bubba Wallace asserted.

One big positive though is the final stage run, where they were able to get back into the top-10, overcoming the early struggles. They were only able to find the right balance with the car after some laps and he appreciate his team to for finding a solution sooner than later.

But great bounce back from our team. Never gave up. Got the right adjustments in it to overcome the damage and came away with a top ten. You always want to be on offense. You know, you never want to be the guy that’s hanging on for tires. So, I was very appreciative of that call. And we know to make the most of it when you’re in that situation. So, all in all, hard to hang your head. But a lot of what-ifs still.

Bubba Wallace said.

The team needs to take advantage of the late race revival and use these notes for the upcoming 1.5 miles races. If Reddick or Wallace can’t secure race wins in the upcoming events, they will be out of the championship conversation.
