Last weekend’s race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway witnessed some wild moments and Joe Gibbs Racing drivers were big part of many such incidents. One such moment involved Christopher Bell, who revealed post-race that he drove most of the event without a power steering.
One of his closet friend and rival on the garage, Kyle Larson though isn’t buying the claims of the Toyota veteran. The reigning champion who finished the Vegas race P2, talked about the moment on his latest appearance on Stacking Pennies with Corey LaJoie and Ryan Flores.
The Hendrick Motorsports driver pointed out that it is impossible for Bell to hang onto the race car without power steering, while insisting zero power steering is not a real thing. He gave the TRD driver the flowers he deserves, but asserted that driving with zero percent power assist on 1.5 miles track is not possible.
No power steering? There’s no chance that Christopher Bell is hanging onto a race car. When people say no power steering, you have some power steering. Bull****. I’m going to give you some flowers, but 0% power assist on an intermediate. No way.
Kyle Larson said on Corey LaJoei’s podcast.
Later in the same conversation, the veteran asserted that he might be stronger than Bell, especially with the injured hand. Podcast host Corey LaJoie highlighted that himself and the likes of Ricky Stenhouse Jr. has raced without power steering. But Kyle Larson asserted that less strong driver like him and Christopher Bell can’t do that.
There’s a good chance I’m stronger than Christopher Bell. There’s no way either of us are hanging on at 0%. I’m sorry, Bell, for busting on you, but there’s no chance.
Kyle Larson added via Stacking Pennies podcast.
Christopher Bell gave an injury update after the race
After the race, Christopher Bell talked about his overall race and how the situation affected his wrist that just recently healed from the injury. He is disappointed with his luck, as he couldn’t take advantage of both Kyle Larson and Denny Hamlin slipping up on stage one.

My wrist is fine. My hands are a little shaky and tingly. I’m gonna be okay. I think I’m done thinking about it. Just going to go out there and race. It’s disappointing to not be able to capitalize on a day like today when other guys had issues. The 5 having that pit stop issue, losing some stage points. The 11 had his issues, so it looked like it was an opportunity to make up some points, and it didn’t happen.
Christopher Bell said.
The comments from the No:20 Toyota Camry driver are on point and shows how hard he fought to collect point with the car with the mechanical issue, only to end up finishing outside the top-20. It would be interesting to see how everything is going to playout for the star driver in the coming days.
