The 2027 NASCAR Truck Series season opener at Daytona would mark a special moment for the racing fans as Kasey Kahne would mark his full-time NASCAR return. He has signed a one-year deal with Spire Motorsports to drive next year, helping the team to develop their lower division program.

The veteran talked about the surprising move on the latest episode of Kevin Harvick’s Speed with Harvick and Buxton podcast. He admitted that when Jeff Dickerson offered him the deal, it shocked him, as he was not expecting start a full-time NASCAR seat negotiation after the Knoxville Nationals.

I was blown out of the water as well. Jeff Dickerson came up to me, and we were talking at Knoxville Nationals this year, the sprint car race out there. He was like, ‘Yeah, we, we want you to come and run full-time. And I was like, ‘full-time?’

Kasey Kahne said on Kevin Harvick’s podcast.

It was unexpected for Kasey Kahne to get an offer considering the fact that he has been out of NASCAR for more than a decade. The veteran has only raced six times in the third division earning him five wins. It was a deal the veteran couldn’t pass on, and he decided to put ink to it.

It was a big surprise to me, but I got thinking about it and to get that type of an opportunity. I’ve been out I think, eight or nine years, somewhere in there, and to get that type of an opportunity to run a truck and be with a team with a lot of success, I was like, man, ‘I can’t pass this up.’ So yeah, I got excited pretty quick. Talked to Amy a lot about it, and yeah, this makes a lot of sense.

In the same conversation later, Kahne pointed out that the current deal is just for the 2027 season and he would make a decision on more runs beyond the year after analysing their performance. He is taking inspirations from legends like Ron Hornaday and Mike Skinner for the new adventure.

I mean, right now, I think just a one-year deal is kind of how it’s in my mind. And, yeah, just really see how it goes.  But when I think of the truck series, I think of (Ron) Hornaday, you know, like I think of (Mike) Skinner and those guys when I was young, just watching them. I just think of it as, for now, just go in, enjoy it, do all I can to get the best out of each weekend, and perform well and see where it goes.

Kasey Kahne said.

Further talking about the point, he highlighted how he was really excited about the energy from the fans when he made a return to racing in 2024 Rockingham NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series race. He wants to continue giving similar high moments for the supporters.

I always look back at when I came into the sport and how lucky I was to get to race during that period of time, because it was so good and so much fun. And there were so many people in the grandstands at all the races. I think that side will be really good. Be fun to be part of that. You just want to run really well, though. And you want to perform and make sure that it that it all looks right.

Kasey Kahne added.

The comments from the veteran racer are on point and shows how his passion for racing is the real reason for his return to a full-time seat, despite the long-break. It would be interesting to see how everything is going to playout for the star driver in the 2026 season.
