The 2026 NASCAR cup series season witnessed one of its biggest driver contract dramas, as it was announced ahead of the Las Vegas race week that RFK Racing is parting ways with Brad Keselowski at the end of the year. The team and driver have entirely different goals for their respective futures, forcing them to spilt.

2014 Cup champion Kevin Harvick talked about the spilt and the future of the No:6 Ford driver on his Speed with Harvick and Buxton podcast. The ex-racer doesn’t see a clear future for the veteran in the Cup Series, as no top-level Cup team have a seat open for a 42-year-old at the moment.

Today is October 5th. We’re five races from the end of the season here and wrapping up the Cup season. And you’ve seen so many things transpire with driver changes and team changes and personnel changes. So, unless somebody gets kicked out and Brad gets put in because of his knowledge and the things that he has going with him.

Kevin Harvick said on his podcast.

Later, despite Kaulig Racing coming out and dismissing the rumors, Kevin Harvick asserted that Brad Keselowski can be a solid investment for Dodge in the long run. They will have a better a Cup driver and a good leader capable of developing their lower division sides as well.

I know Chris Rice and Kaulig Racing came out and said that Brad hadn’t been talked to. But in the end, Dodge needs a lot of help to get their truck program on track. They’ve run a little bit better doing the things that they’ve been doing. I think that their Cup car would be better with Brad Keselowski in it.

Kevin Harvick added via on Speed with Harvick and Buxton podcast.

Furthermore, Harvick explained the bitter truth; there is no top-notch side out there looking for the signature of Keselowski. JGR has not seat open, HMS already has Connor Zilisch contracted to replace Alex Bowman and Team Penske no going to rehire their ex-racer, despite uncertainty over Austin Cindric.

But I don’t see any top-notch rides available for Brad to go into unless there is just some massive shift in, in somebody’s thought processes. I don’t see him going back to Penske. I know Austin Cindric’s contract and everything that he has going on, but I don’t see that changing… He’s not going to Hendrick. We’ve already seen the direction that they’re going with the 48 car.

Kevin Harvick asserted.

Kevin Harvick feels the timing is all wrong for Brad Keselowski

In the same conversation later, Kevin Harvick highlighted how the timing of the split seems really off for the veteran considering there is no real future for him in the Cup. There are many pieces of the puzzle not available for him or not in the right place to start fresh again in the top tier.

So, I think that the options are very limited for Brad to get back in a winning situation to be able to finish his career, like you’d want to see him finish by winning races. So just incredible timing. And I think there’s a lot more to this story that we have the pieces to fill in with things that are probably happening off the racetrack and in the race shop. It’s too sudden for it not to have more pieces of the puzzle.

Kevin Harvick said.

The comments from the 2014 Cup champion about one of his foam drivers are on point and shows how the sport has changed over the years. It would be interesting to see how everything is going to playout for the star drivers.
