The NASCAR Cup Series on Sunday at Charlotte Motor Speedway witnessed some wild moments. One of those dramatic moments was the wreck on stage one involving Bubba Wallace, Alex Bowman and William Byron.
With three laps left on the stage, while fighting for front row spots, Bowman lost control of his car and overcorrected his attempt to save the No:48. He slammed hard into the back of the No:23 Toyota, spinning both of them out, collecting the No:24 of Byron in the process.
It was a nasty clash and the duo was lucky, both escaped without a major injury. Talking about to media, the 23XI Racing driver admitted that has no hard feeling for Bowman, as it was just a racing incident that happened because of an unexpected last moment technical issue.
No warning. I saw it in the last second. The 48 [Bowman] came up and clipped us. No hard feelings, it’s just racing. It’s loose down there … Him and I don’t want to give up spots (and) he wants to get by me.
Bubba Wallace said after the race.
Later in the same conversation, the veteran racer admitted that both him and Alex Bowman were going all out for track position before things went south. Bubba Wallace was glad he walked from the incident injury free, though it cost him top 10 spot in the chase, as he is now P11 in the table behind Carson Hocevar.
But for pit road sake, to keep our day smooth, we want to stay in front of him. But he just got loose and, to be honest, the first hit wiped our brakes out. And so, on the second hit, it got me good. But we’re good. We’ve still got nine fingers and nine toes, so we’re fine.

After Wallace’s discussion with the media, Bowman also talked about the incident that ruined the race for three prominent racers. He highlighted how it was his overcorrection that led to the incident. It cost them the opportunity to earn some good points.

Yeah, it just got loose. I honestly have been really tight and I don’t know, as soon as it got to the exit of the corner, it snapped and kind of didn’t stand a chance. Unfortunately, grabbed too much wheel and over corrected into those two guys. I hate that for our Ally 48 team. Obviously, we had a pretty fast car.

Later in the same conversation, the HMS driver admitted that he hates he ruined the race for Wallace and Byron. He asserted that he didn’t know how he got lose as much he did in the moment and was disappointed with the poor job he did.
I also hate that for the 23 [Wallace] and 24 [Byron] cars like just it’s fine to get loose and crash, but to ruin their days too really s****…It’s on me. I just didn’t hang on to it well enough and just caught off-guard. I don’t know why I got as loose as I did, I hadn’t been loose at all but it’s part of driving race cars and unfortunately, I didn’t do a good enough job of it.
Alex Bowman added.
The comments from the racer are on point and shows one wrong decision can change the championship dynamic as it did on Sunday. It would be interesting to see how everything is going to playout for the star driver in the coming days.
