January 2023 was one of the wildest months of late NASCAR legend Kyle Busch’s life. He was arrested in Mexico, while coming back from a vacation at Cancún airport, for illegally carrying firearm. He was given three and a half years in prison sentence, alongside $1,000 fine. The veteran was released on bond and was allowed to leave the country.

The two times Cup champion’s widow Samantha Busch talked about this wild moment on the latest episode of her Certified Oversharer podcast. It was never revealed how long the racing legend spend behind the bars before getting released for “unknowingly carrying the gun” and his wife revealed that the ex-RCR racer saw it as a unique experience he would never forget.

How is it in there? Are you okay? And he was like, ‘You know, it’s kind of relaxing. I mean, I don’t have a phone, so I don’t have to like do any work, and I can nap all day if I want to. Granted, there’s ants and bugs all over the floor, but like really, it’s not bad.’

Samantha Busch said about her husband.

The imprisonment wasn’t the wildest moment of the experience for Kyle Busch. According to Samantha Busch, the racer met a person named Angel in the prison, who was from a rich background. Being a savvy businessman, he is, the racer sought a Truck Series sponsorship, and it seems that attempt didn’t pan out as expected.

And then there’s another part when he went from jail to prison, that he met this guy named Angel, and Angel had a lot of money. And so, he’s trying to get truck sponsorship out of a Mexican prisoner.

Samantha Busch added via Certified Oversharer podcast.

The champion drivers’ widow pointed out that she and many of Busch’s friends have a lot of epic Kyle stories similar to the Mexican prison moment. She might share more similar stories from the racing legends career in her Certified Oversharer podcast.

So, like these are the Kyle-Kyle stories that need to be out there because like they’re epic. He’s epic and I just need the world to know like how epic my Kyle is.

Samantha Busch asserted.

Samantha Busch regrets the sale of Kyle Busch Motorsports

In the same podcast, Samantha talked about her regret regarding the sale of Kyle Busch Motorsports team. The team, Rowdy Manufacturing and their 77,000-squre-feet facility was sold to spire Motorsports in 2023.

She regrets this decision because if they had the team right now, it would have been the perfect opportunity to honour the late racers legacy. She highlighted how they could’ve used the team to give opportunity to aspiring racers to start their career.

There’s so many nights that I’m like, ‘Gosh darn it, I wish we still had KBM,’ so that we could have this truck team, and instead of having the All-Star truck, we could get a really cool sponsor, and it would be the truck of chances, right?… Kyle gave kids a chance that didn’t always have the funding. And that would be important for me for his legacy because I think that would make him really proud.

Samantha Busch said.

The comments from Busch’s Widow are on point and shows how the sport missed out on a special opportunity to honor the champion driver. It would be interesting to see how everything is going to playout for the Busch family in the upcoming years.
