The NASCAR Cup Series race on Sunday at Phoenix witnessed Tyler Reddick’s return to the victory lane, as produced an impressive run to secure the Freeway Insurance 500 trophy, alongside the 2026 Manufacturer Championship. At the same time his teammate Bubba Wallace flew back home heartbroken after missing out on another shot at victory.
The No:23 driver was perfectly positioned to secure the race win with just 30 laps left in the race and a two seconds lead on Chase Briscoe at P2. But a pit road speeding penalty after the caution dropped him all the way down to P17, ruining any momentum he had on the day. He shared his disappointment about it post-race and put some blame on the lack of visibility in the corner for his mistake.
Yeah, unfortunate. Our team is so good at finding all the gray areas to operate in and find our limits. And I think I exposed it a little bit too much around the corner. Corner pitting is really, really tough to see, you know, just with the lack of visibility that you have.
Bubba Wallace said post-race.
Talking about the costly mistake, Bubba Wallace admitted that he was trying to rush out of the pit-box and put himself in the right spot to secure the race win, before everything went south for him. The veteran is frustrated over the fact that he let his team down and couldn’t deliver the win they deserve for giving him one of the fastest cars of the day at Phoenix.
You’re trying to, one, not trying to run through too many boxes, but also not give up too much time because you can. You do speed up through those sections. And so, you’ve got to remember when you speed up, you can’t cut too much distance. And so, when you cut too much distance and speed up, it adds to a speeding penalty. I hate it for our team. This 23 group has worked so hard all year long and no results to show for it. Or we come up just short. So, it’s frustrating.

Bubba Wallace is happy for Toyota despite the dejection
While he is disappointed with the overall result, he is finding some positive for the team with teammate Tyler Reddicks win. The No:45 team’s sixth win of the season helped TRD secure the championship.

One big disappointment for Wallace, who is currently sitting P12 in the table, is the winless streak and he is hoping to end it with just three more races left in the chase. Not delivering on the final stage has been the weakness holding the No:23 team this year.
It’s super hard to be happy right now, but happy for the team, 45, getting another win. Happy for Toyota, locked up the Manufacturer’s Championship. So, it’s been really fun driving Toyotas this year, but I just can’t seem to close the deal out. Got three more to go.
Bubba Wallace said.
Next weeks race at Talladega would offer the veteran a got shot at the race win, considering he has always been solid on Superspeedways and he has secured his maiden win at Dega. It would be interesting to see how everything is going to playout for the star driver in the upcoming race days.
