Caitlin Clark’s Fever to Keep Stephanie White as Coach Despite Sweeping Front Office Changes
The Indiana Fever have a lot of tough decisions to make before next season starts, including Caitlin Clark's salary.

After the Indiana Fever finished their season in the first round of the playoffs, opinions were split on how the organization should move forward, with the need to help Caitlin Clark and her teammates win a championship front and center.
Inconsistency was the most often-used word throughout the regular season, and it ended up showing its ugly side in the postseason. Fans were frustrated that the team couldn’t beat better teams, but looked extremely strong against worse ones.
That seemed like a team that was just good enough to be a middle-of-the-pack outfit, and not one that hoped to compete for the championship. To compete with the league’s best, the Fever needed to be the best every night, but they weren’t.
Sure, Clark set records, as did Kelsey Mitchell, and Aliyah Boston added another All-Star nod. But all those seem futile since they could not convert what was a league-best offensive system into something meaningful.
There were many reasons for this, and some of it landed on head coach Stephanie White‘s shoulders. While every player backed the Purdue alum, there were concerns that her schemes were not helping Clark and Boston play to their best. Meanwhile, Mitchell enjoyed a career year.
Regarding today’s Fever news/fallout: -The expectation as of now is that Stephanie White will remain head coach of the Fever, sources told ESPN. -When she returned to the Fever organization in the fall of 2024, Kelly Krauskopf never intended to stay in the role long-term, sources said, and anticipated staying on for only two or three years max.

However, the team is about to enter a critical phase of its plan to contend for a championship down the line. For now, it seems Stephanie White will continue coaching Caitlin Clark, at least for another season. ESPN’s Alexa Philippou learned from sources that the parent organization, Pacers Sports & Entertainment, will give her another chance.
A new front office will oversee decisions on Caitlin Clark’s teammates
While Stephanie White can probably breathe a sigh of relief that she would coach Caitlin Clark next season, her immediate bosses are not so lucky. The first news that broke through from Indianapolis was that team President Kelly Krauskopf was stepping down from her role.
Alexa Philippou noted in her tweet that the 64-year-old had already set a timeline for her return to head the Fever. So she was probably going to make this decision at some point, but the circumstances may have sped it up.
Hours after this announcement, the Fever issued another statement that they fired GM and COO Amber Cox from her role. Krauskopf brought along Cox, and now neither of them will oversee the team’s decisions.
Therefore, owner Herb Simon likely already has someone lined up, or will eventually bring someone in to steer the team in the right direction.
Cox handed out rich contracts to Aliyah Boston, Kelsey Mitchell, Lexie Hull, and Monique Billings. Even though Clark earns millions off the court and is willing to take a pay cut, the Fever still face a tough salary-cap situation next season.
2027 will define whether Stephanie White continues to coach Caitlin Clark and Fever
Whoever comes in to chair the front office will need to make some tough decisions. With fan favorites such as Sophie Cunningham and a few others about to become free agents, that task will get even harder.

The hope is that whatever those decisions are, they are taken in the best interest of helping Caitlin Clark and her teammates fulfill their potential to become champions.
However, that is also what Stephanie White has to keep in mind as she prepares for next season. The 49-year-old lives and breathes Indiana. But that connection might not be enough to keep her job if the results don’t match expectations.
Time and again, White and her coaches looked to be in conflict with the players. That cannot continue next season, unless they want to be out of a job. This offseason, the head coach and her staff should sit down with Caitlin Clark and the rest of the squad to figure out how they can improve.
