Nikola Jokic may be one of the best players in the world, if not the best, but it has not reflected on his team in terms of results so far. Drafted by the Denver Nuggets as the 41st pick in 2014, Jokic has gone on to become the greatest draft steal in NBA history.

While most star players would opt to move to a bigger market in their primes, Jokic has spent his entire career in Denver. He has cemented himself as the greatest player in franchise history and has led them to their first and only championship in 2023. However, despite his historic numbers, he has had little postseason success since lifting the title.

Hence, Jokic and the Nuggets have been under some pressure heading into the new season. Unfortunately, things have not gone according to plan as they suffered a humiliating 134-114 defeat to the Golden State Warriors at the Ball Arena on Monday night.

After the game, Jokic criticized the home fans for booing the team and called them “not real fans”.

I just said what I said. I’m sticking to what I said. I’ve played in much worse environments. I’ve played in front of 10 people, 50 people, 100 people, 10,000, 15,000 – whatever. I’m not used to fans booing their own team. I never heard that [before], but I think they’re not the real fans.

While Jokic has been one of the most dominant players in the league over the last five years, he has been under criticism for struggling to produce results in the playoffs. Last season, he was far from his best as the Nuggets were eliminated in the first round by the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Since then, it appears that patience has been running thin among the fans as well. Fans were heard booing their team during the game against the New Orleans Pelicans when they trailed by 19 points at the end of the third quarter. While they did come back to win the game, the fans were booing even louder on Monday night, and it appears that Jokic was having none of it.

Fans react to Nikola Jokic criticizing Nuggets fans for booing

Nikola Jokic has played in some of the most intense atmospheres in professional basketball during his time in Europe. However, he revealed that he has never heard any fans booing their own teams during a game before. Hence, he was critical of the Nuggets fan for their actions on Monday.

After criticizing the fans after their game against the Pelicans, Jokic doubling down on his criticism generated a lot of reactions across social media.

His comments saw fans generate mixed reactions. While some fans backed his comments for calling out the fans, some believe that the boos are warranted, as the team has been very poor considering the expectations surrounding them.

Following Jokic’s criticism of the fans, Green weighed in on the controversial remarks and defended the statements.

Why are you here? Like you’re really not on our side if you start booing us this fast. If you’ve come in here with a predetermined mindset, that mindset for you to be booing us, it’s very pessimistic. It’s very negative. So stay your a** at home. So I agree with Joker on this and it looked like he was dead a**.

This is not the first time Nikola Jokic has rubbed the fans in the wrong way. A few weeks ago, he drew flak for saying that he does not like fans coming to him and asking for photos. And it appears that he has rubbed his fans in the wrong way once again.
