The NASCAR Cup Series race at Talladega Motor Speedway often delivers the most violent wrecks the sports has seen and this Sunday was no different. Team Penske Racing’s Joey Logano was the unlucky drivers that was involved in the most-chaotic incident of the week, as his lap 183 wreck collected over seven driver and the race was red flagged.
The three times champion was racing ahead of Chase Briscoe and Carson Hocevar in the tri-oval, when the No:19 Toyota bumped into the back of the No:77 Chevy, who made contact with the No:22 Ford, causing the Penske car to lose control. The champion’s car flipped upside down and skid across the track on its roof.
Oh, no… I’m upside down… That was not a good moment, but I can’t thank the safety crew enough. They did an amazing job flipping the car back over. The last time I flipped, the bars crushed on my head. This time, I don’t think anything caved in or crushed at all. I appreciate what @NASCAR has done and thank you again to the @TALLADEGA safety team for getting me out of the car safely and quickly. There were some vicious hits in that pile up. I’m just happy to be alive. @Team_Penske @ShellStationsUS @Pennzoil @FordRacing @CocaColaRacing #CokePartner @AutoTrader_com @DiscountTire @hbpRacing @PlanetFitness #NASCAR

Fortunately, all racers were able to avoid running into Logano in the chaos and that’s why he was able to get out of the car with the help of the safety crew without suffering any injuries. But the incident did damage over 15 cars, with Riley Herbst, Austin Cindric, Brad Keselowski, Daniel Suarez, AJ Allmendinger, Chris Buescher, Alex Bowman and a few getting collected in the wild-pileup.
I honestly haven’t seen the replay yet even though — I guess here it is. Let’s see what happened here. He’s pushing at the end here. And then he’s gonna push in the tri-oval maybe? Yeah, looks like I just got a little push in the wrong spot there. And then this moment, it was very much a Talladega Night moment. It’s like, ‘oh no, I’m upside down, this is not a good moment.’
Joey Logano said after getting released from the infield care centre.
Onboard view as Joey Logano goes from battling for the win to upside down in the closing laps at Talladega. Kudos to Joey’s spotter, Coleman Pressley, for thinking quickly to tell his driver that he wasn’t in danger of being hit by any other cars as he slid on his roof. https://t.co/rhjiF9UOzQ

Further talking about the incident, Joey Logano praised the NASCAR safety team for their swift response, and they were efficient in flipping the car as well as getting him out of the wrecked Ford. The car’s safety features were solid, as unlike the last flip he was involved in, the role cage didn’t crush. The veteran is happy to escape the vicious wreck.
I can’t thank the safety crew enough. They did an amazing job flipping that thing over. The car did a great job. The last time I flipped it, it was crushed on my head. And this time, you know, we didn’t see the roll cage crush at all. I appreciate, what NASCARs done.…Thank you to the safety team for getting me out of there safe — some vicious hits in this one. Yeah, just happy to be alive.
Joey Logano asserted, as reported by motorsport.com.
Riley Herbst was also collected in the wild Joey Logano wreck
Another driver that had a similar wild ride as Logano in the wild moment was Riley Herbst. The 23XI Racing Toyota driver slammed hard onto the outside wall after losing his break in the chaos and he definitely got the wind knocked out of him.

Talking about its post-race, the young racer credited the team for giving him a safe car and admitted that he was going all out for the win, when things went south. He was an innocent bystander when the whole chaos occurred and ruined his race.
Riley Herbst with maybe the hardest hit I’ve ever seen in NASCAR Glad to see him get out of the car https://t.co/2scEJsUOpw

Yeah, I’m okay, thank you. It was a big one, but just thank you to 23XI and Toyota for the support. It’s been an up and down year, to say the least. So, I thought we had a shot at it there at the end. We got shuffled out a little bit but came back and ultimately just got caught up in that wreck at Talladega.
Riley Herbst said.
None of the drivers involved in the big-one was injured and that perfectly showcased how much the safety standards of the Next-Gen car’s have evolved. The chaos also played a key role in Kyle Larson winning the race and almost securing the 2026 championship, as the wreck collected majority of his rivals.
