The 2026 NASCAR Cup Series season witnessed one of its wildest wrecks of the year last Sunday at Talladega Motor Speedway. Three times champion Joey Logano lost the control of the No:22 Ford Mustang after a bump from Carson Hocevar. The car flipped upside down and skid across the track on its roof.
The veteran was fortunate he escaped without any significant injuries, while the same unfortunate incident collected Riley Herbst and injured his hand. Two driver many point their figures post-race for causing the incident were Ross Chastain and the No:77 Chevy racer, Hocevar. The Spire Motorsports racer talked about his role in the incident post-race.

I didn’t see a lot. I was more so looking to my left and my rearview for what lanes we’re going to merge to, because we’re all on the top. And then all of a sudden, the bottom came in, and the bottom and top, were going to try and merge to the middle and try to get everything, so I didn’t really see anything.
Carson Hocevar said post-race.
The youngster was pretty confused the moment when the top and bottom lanes were about to merge. Carson Hocevar was focused on what’s happening behind him and he is following a small bump to his Chevy’s rear; he made contact with Joey Logano’s Mustang in the wrong spot and wrong time.
I was more so looking at my rear view, and when I looked up, it was more so because I felt a bump, and I just hit him in the rear at the wrong time. I was making forward progress with him, so I feel bad, because we were obviously making a lot of headway there and doing really good.
Carson Hocevar told Noah Lewis.
The driver was looking for overtake the veteran racer in the same lane, instead of carving a third lane in order to progress up the track. His mistake spun the former champion and caused a chaos that damaged cars of over 15 racers on the day. The youngster understands, if he was better with the decision making, the victory would’ve been his.
I made a lot of forward progress, and I was inching at him in the tri-oval, because obviously we need to have to do that in the third lane, and yeah, I just spun him. But I was more so looking at my rearview, so that’s on me for that, but yeah, that’s my fault.
Carson Hocevar asserted.
Carson Hocevar credits his crew for surviving the chaos and finishing P6
Later in the same conversation, the racer talked about his impressive comeback later in the race to finish P6. His crew played a key role in fixing the car as soon as it was towed to the garage and got him back on the track with enough speed to overtake the midfield to finish inside the top-10.

I mean, I only really got flats and a hole in the right side door, but other than that, I was fine. I really got to thank the tow truck guy for hauling ass and helping me out, and then, you know, obviously my road crew and pit crew…I thought we had to beat the pace car to the line, but I think we could have waited another lap, so we actually beat the field and got almost a lap ahead, so that just shows how fast they were. So yeah, all the credit to them.
Carson Hocevar said.
The result shows if not for the incident, the No:77 Chevy would have been in the fight for the race win at the end of the race. It was no surprise considering they won the regular season race at the track. It would be interesting to see how the duo is going to take advantage of the momentum he has on his side with two more races left in the season.
