Much was made about how the WNBA could only manage to schedule Game 6 for 12:30 PM ET, a time when most fans are either busy at work or school. That distraction, though, kept the spotlight off Angel Reese and her Atlanta Dream, who were basically one game away from ending their season.

After Games 2 and 3, fans felt the Maryland native would stand atop the mountain with the championship trophy in her hands and smile as her critics shut their mouths for good.

However, the Golden State Valkyries stormed back to win the next two games. They did so by relying on what made them the league’s second-best team: stifling the opposing team’s best players.

Reese struggled to get going both in front of away fans and those at home, and her team ended up on the back foot. With their backs against the wall, it was a do-or-die situation for the 24-year-old.

The superstar has experience playing in such situations. Therefore, all it took was for her to regain her composure and deliver when it mattered. After helping the Dream win Game 6, Reese said this to the courtside reporter:

Championship mentality… The job is not done. I’m looking forward to it, one more.

Angel Reese said

The forward made it clear that she and her team came into Game 6 with the sole focus of giving it their all and punching a ticket to Game 7. Angel Reese also dived into her inner Kobe Bryant by suggesting that the ‘job was not done. That is all the indication that she is focused on completing her mission.

Angel Reese displayed her leadership by motivating the Dream’s best scorer

Before the Chicago Sky traded Angel Reese to the Atlanta Dream, Allisha Gray and Rhyne Howard were the team’s primary scorers. That continued until the LSU alum took her time to learn how to play alongside them.

Then, once she found her footing, the 6’3″ star overtook the rest to become the team’s best scorer. However, in Games 4 & 5, the Valkyries stifled her to the point that her lack of scoring hurt the team.

Me and her had a conversation on the way back from San Fran. I told her it’s gonna be a mental game… I always reminded like you that girl, you’re a superstar, act like a superstar, and always be a superstar.

This shows Reese’s leadership, as she decided to motivate Gray, knowing the entire team needed to step up in Game 6. The result: the four-time All-Star scored a team-high 23 points, along with six rebounds, three assists, two steals, and three blocks.

That overall output helped the Dream jump out to a lead in the first quarter and maintain it despite the Valkyries’ furious fourth-quarter rally. If she can do it again, Angel Reese and Allisha Gray will be celebrating a championship.

Angel Reese and her Dream get another chance to win the 2026 championship

Before Game 6, an eerie tension hung over Angel Reese and her Atlanta Dream: they could lose, which would have forced them to watch their opponents lift the championship in front of their home fans.

After all, the Golden State Valkyries had momentum after back-to-back wins, which gave the impression they had found a way to limit both Reese and her other All-Star teammates.

Thankfully, for Dream fans who had to skip work and school to watch the game live, the hope lives on that maybe their city will soon celebrate a basketball championship.

Game 7 will not be easy, given that the Valkyries’ passionate fanbase will be out to support them. Even some of the league’s best have found it difficult to win there. Therefore, the task is cut out for Angel Reese and her teammates.
