I should have had more goals than matches, says Erling Haaland

Erling Haaland has proclaimed that he hasn’t scored enough goals in his career after scoring a hat-trick against Gibraltar, his 12th goal in only 15 games for his country. He feels underwhelmed with his total and feels he can score more than one goal each game.

Haaland’s worldwide success may not measure up to his own expectations, but it is surely making history for his country. He is regarded as one of the most exciting talents in world football, scoring at an astonishing pace for his club Borussia Dortmund with six goals in five games so far in Bundesliga 2021/22, and he didn’t seem to stop there as he continued his exploits for Norway in the Qualifiers of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

His hat-trick against Gibraltar cemented his reputation as one of the finest and consistent international strikers. He has stated, though, that he does not believe he is meeting his own ambitions in terms of goals-per-game ratio.

“I do not score enough goals, but approach one goal point on average. I personally think that I should have had more goals than matches,” said Erling Haaland after victory over Gibraltar.

Haaland is closing in on Norway’s all-time leading scorer, Jorgen Juve, who had 33 goals in his career, and he couldn’t conceal his desire to attain that milestone.

“You can probably imagine what I am working towards,” added Haaland.

Keeping aside all the personal achievements of Haaland, the Dortmund striker has a big responsibility for his country. Norway haven’t made it to the World Cup since their last appearance in 1988.

Haaland will be eager to create history for his nation and help them secure a berth for the mega event. At present, Norway sits comfortably at the top spot in Group G Qualifiers and will next face Holland.

Given the form of Haaland, this might be the best chance for them to make it to the global stage.
