‘Disappointed but not discouraged’: Emma Raducanu ready to bounce back after opening match defeat at Indian Wells 2021

Emma Raducanu has become a superstar of the game in no time. She came into the US Open as World No. 150 and after battling through the qualifiers, the star player went on to lift the trophy. Evidently, she became the go-to celeb for brands that were looking for a face that can attract audiences globally.

In no time, Raducanu became the showstopper at various global events. The whole world was anxious to see how the Brit performs at the Indian Wells, her first tournament post the US Open triumph. However, things really didn’t go as planned as she was stunned in the opening match by a determined Aliaksandra Sasnovich.

‘I’m so inexperienced that I’m just taking it all in’: Raducanu on her opening match loss at Indian Wells

Raducanu never looked in control and lost the match in straight sets. After dropping the first set, she got a 4-2 lead in the second set but eventually lost the encounter by 6-2, 6-4. Talking about her loss with Reuters, Raducanu claimed that she was disappointed but not discouraged.

It’s my third WTA tournament this year. It will come in time. I’ve just got to not rush it, keep going and get my head back to the drawing board. There’s going to be disappointment after any loss,” she said. I didn’t go in there putting any pressure on myself because in my mind, I’m so inexperienced that I’m just taking it all in,” she added.

Raducanu praised Sasnovich as well for putting up an incredible performance and claimed that she deserved to win the game. “You’re going to have highs and you’re always going to have lows where you’re disappointed with how you performed. Aliaksandra played a great match. You could tell she’s more experienced than me. She went out there and executed her game plan better than I did. She, of course, deserved to win,” she stated.

Raducanu is set to feature in the WTA 250 event in Linz, Austria, and would be expected to script a comeback on the court after a rather forgettable run at the Indian Wells 2021.
