Premier League: Brighton and Hove Albion vs Manchester City Player Ratings as Manchester City register big win

Manchester City blew apart Brighton and Hove Albion with a 4-1 win in the Premier League at the American Express Community Stadium on Saturday. Phil Foden scored twice for Manchester City followed by goals from Ilkay Gundogan and Riyad Mahrez while the hosts could only muster a single goal, that too from the spot scored by Alexis Allister.

Let us have a look at how each player from the two teams performed:

Brighton and Hove Albion

Robert Sanchez (6/10): Sanchez made several great saves throughout the game but he failed to collect the balls on more occasions than one, resulting in goals for Manchester City.

Dan Burn (5/10): Dan Burn had a forgettable game. He found it very difficult to contain Gabriel Jesus and Bernardo Silva on the left and was not effective in defence.

Lewis Dunk © (5/10): Lewis Dunk was relatively decent since most of Manchester City’s moves were made from the wings. However, even he did several schoolboy errors.

Joel Veltman (4/10): Veltman was deployed on the right side of the pitch and failed to deal with the likes of Jack Grealish. 

Marc Cucurella (5/10): Cucurella was out of touch in the first half but showed promise in the second half. Made some decent moves with the ball but was largely ineffective. 

Adam Lallana (6/10): Lallana was in central midfield. He rarely managed to get a ball in useful areas in the first half. However, much like his other teammates, he also did show promise in the second half.

Pascal Grob (6/10): Pascal Grob was deployed down the wings and delivered some decent crosses inside the Manchester City box.

Solly March (6/10): Solly March was deployed on the right side of the pitch and was kept out of play by the Manchester City defensive fullbacks, and could not do anything much.

Jakub Moder (7/10): Jakub Moder was mostly isolated upfront but did play some good balls to the Brighton strikers up front to open up the opposition in the second half.

Leandro Tossard (7/10): Tossard was in the thick of things and was a constant menace for the Manchester City defence whenever he got the ball. He was quick and had a few shots on goal.

Neal Maupay (6/10): Neal Maupay rarely got played a ball from the back and did not have much to do except a few scoring chances eked out on his individual capabilities.

Substitutes

Tariq Lamptey (6/10): Lamptey replaced Burn at the back and provided the physique to the home side to score headers. He did get some chances from set-pieces to score but was not on the mark.

Enock Mwepu (6/10): Mwepu replaced Maupay upfront and was quick with his movement with the ball, keeping the visitors busy at the back.

Alexis Allister (N/A): Allister did not have enough touches on the ball to earn a rating but he did step up to score the only goal for his side from the penalty spot late into the second half.

Manchester City

Ederson (8/10): Ederson was on top form throughout the game and never allowed the home side to have a clear opening on the goal. He made some top saves in the second half and rarely looked troubled.

Kyle Walker (8/10): Kyle Walker played out some good balls from down the wings and combined with the likes of Jesus and Siva to open up the left wing of Brighton.

Ruben Dias (7/10): Dias was spotted struggling at the back in the second half, probably due to fatigue after an exceptional performance in the first half.

Aymeric Laporte (8/10): Laporte partnered Dias at the back and never put a foot wrong in the entire game. He made timely interceptions, cleared out the loose balls and was disciplined throughout.

Joao Cancelo (8/10): Cancelo had a terrific outing in the midfield. He opened up the Brighton midfield on several occasions and created several scoring opportunities with his incisive passing.

Bernardo Silva (8/10): Bernardo Silva was in the form of his life. He played quick football and dictated the entire possession of attacking play for Manchester City. Rodri (7/10):

Ilkay Gundogan © (7/10): Ilkay Gundogan was a little defensive in his approach and was not involved enough in his side’s attacking movements. However, he did manage to score after being played out on the left side of the goal by Jack Grealish.

Gabriel Jesus (8/10): Gabriel Jesus was an attacking master class on the night against Brighton. His intense pace down the right side opened up the Brighton defence with ease.

Phil Foden (9/10): Foden was arguably the best player on the pitch. He scored two goals and played up Riyad Mahrez for the second goal of his side. 

Jack Grealish (8/10): Grealish, much like Jesus was at the top of his game on the other wing. He opened up the opposition with ease and created several scoring opportunities including setting up Foden.
