The 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will see 10 teams fight it out for the prestigious trophy. Following the enormous success of the league and abundance of Indian talent, BCCI has decided to add two new IPL teams. Lucknow and Ahmedabad will be the home of the two new franchises for the upcoming season.
The Glazer family won the bid for Lucknow while India’s Adani Group won the bid for Ahmedabad. In total, there were 22 companies that picked up the tender document worth Rs 10 lakh. Fans will see their favourite league reverting to the 2011 format which will feature 70 league games and four playoff matches.

Netizens have come up with hilarious memes as the confirmation for the two new IPL teams arrive. While many targetted the underfiring Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjær, others are left guessing the names of the new teams. It will be interesting to see what the names of the two franchises will be.
Adani Group, RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group, Hindustan Times Media, Manchester United owners, the Glazer family and Aurobindo were among the top bidders. Rhiti Sports company which used to manage MS Dhoni and Amrit Leela Enterprises were the surprise entrants. Rhiti Sports was later disqualified.
It was back in 2011 when the IPL witnessed a 10 team format for the first time. The Pune Warriors and Kochi Tuskers were the two sides that were added for the third edition of the cash-rich league. It has been confirmed that IPL 2022 will follow the 2011 model, which scrapped the simple home-and-away format and included a total of 74 matches.
