F1 CEO calls for improvement in Red Bull-Mercedes relationship to avoid further clashes

Red Bull, Mercedes
Mercedes and Red Bull have not had the best relationships in Formula One over the past decade. It is quite obvious as the two remain the biggest rivals in F1 at the moment. Things just went a bit too over the line this year, as Mercedes and Red Bull engaged in pretty heated up battle.
The relationship between the two sides was further hampered by the events that occurred at the Abu Dhabi GP. FIA’s decision to allow lapped cars between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen pass the safety car, has left Mercedes quite shocked.
Formula 1 CEO, Stefano Domenicali believes that the relationship between the two teams must be mended for good in 2022. He added that this will be a gradual process to prevent future disputes.
“Those who live with certainties mean that they sleep well! But we have many doubts and we have to face them. We have issues that will eventually have to be managed,” said Domenicali as quoted by Autosport.
“We will have to evaluate day-by-day the relationship that must be recovered between Red Bull and Mercedes, to avoid the personal clashes that we have seen that serve no benefit,” he added.
Formula 1 CEO applauds stratospheric numbers produced in 2021

Formula One owners, Liberty Media have remained silent on the entire fiasco that occurred at the Abu Dhabi GP. They believe that it is wise to leave the matter into the hands of new FIA president, Mohammed ben Sulayem.
“We have already spoken with the president. We talked about the priorities he will have to face, and there are many,” said Stefan.
“But, at this stage, it is right to remain silent so as not to create further controversy in an area that was very overheated. But I would like to say that we come from an extraordinary season, followed by more than two billion people,” he added.
Lastly, Stefan Domenicali pointed out the huge increase in viewership this season, due to the incredible battle between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton. The CEO stated that they should be proud of the numbers they have generated this season. “The last Abu Dhabi GP was the most followed sporting event in 2021. These are stratospheric numbers that we must be proud of,” the CEO went on.
Stefan Domenicali also hinted at changes in the working of FIA after the arrival of a new President. “With the change of presidency within the FIA there may also be a change in the balance within the FIA, which for us has an absolutely fundamental role,” he added.
