“Tennis is celebrating” Diego Schwartzman makes an excellent observation about ‘rare champion’ Carlos Alcaraz’s title-clinching victory in the 2022 Miami Masters

Carlos Alcaraz gave yet another proof of why is he the next big thing in tennis. Aged 18 years old, the Spanish teenager defeated World No. 8 Casper Ruud in the finals of the 2022 Miami Masters to win his maiden Masters-1000 title and third of his career. The win saw him rise to World No. 11 spot while Ruud also climbed to the 7th position in the ATP rankings.
Alcaraz’s win meant that he is now the youngest Miami Masters champion breaking Novak Djokovic‘s record when the Serbian won the title aged 19 years old in 2007. He also becomes the third youngest man in history to clinch a Masters title. With 3 titles from 3 finals for Alcaraz, he has now won an ATP-250 title, an ATP-500 title and an ATP-1000 title along with the ATP NextGen Finals in his trophy cabinet.
The finals lived up to the expectations despite both Ruud and Alcaraz playing in their first Masters finals. Ruud took an early 3-0 lead in the first set but Alcaraz rallied back to take the set 7-5 before coming out all guns blazing in the second set and did not allow the Norwegian No. 1 to comeback in the match as he won the second set 6-4 to claim the title.
With the tennis world celebrating the youngster’s win, World no. 16 Diego Schwartzman took to his Twitter handle to congratulate Carlos. Diego was the runner-up to Carlos in the ATP-500 Rio Open 2022 but the Argentine did not sit back in wishing the teenager for his record-breaking and historic win.
“CARLITOSSSSSSSS!!! What a person, player, team. Tennis is celebrating and happy for him. It’s not easy to find a champion whose victory everyone is delighted with. @alcarazcarlos03 @juankiferri,” tweeted Diego, congratulating not only Carlos but his coach Juan Carlos Ferrero as well who surprised Alcaraz with a visit before the finals as he was in Spain to attend his father’s funeral when Carlos started his journey at the tournament.
A debut in Monte-Carlo awaits Carlos Alcaraz

With the hardcourt season coming to an end for a while now as the focus shifts towards the Golden Swing of the Tour, Carlos will next be seen in action at the 2022 Monte-Carlo Masters that starts on 10th April. Alcaraz will make his debut at the competition and will be one of the title contenders given his suitability to the surface and the red-hot form that he is in right now.
