“Easy answer”: The Rock Reveals The Name Responsible For Iconic Wrestling Word ‘SmackDown’

The Rock and Roman Reigns

WWE recently asked fans which superstar reminded them the most of the vintage SmackDown logo in a tweet. The former world champion then responded, alleging that the celebrity was clearly the one for whom the programme was named, implying that he was the one in question. The Rock said that former WWE manager Harvey Wippleman was the first person who sprang to mind after seeing the old Smackdown logo in response to a WWE on Fox tweet.

The Rock also disclosed that Wippleman was the one who created the term “Smackdown.” Harvey Wippleman made his debut as a youngster in 1979 and grew to renown in the 1980s as the manager Downtown Bruno in Memphis and other southern areas. He began working with WWE in 1991 as a manager and road agent, eventually capturing the WWE Women’s Championship in 2000 while posing as Hervina.

“Easy answer. C’mon @WWE. The superstar who this show was named after. The superstar responsible for “Smackdown” officially becoming a word in the @MerriamWebster dictionary. And that superstar is…Harvey Whippleman aka Downtown Bruno! ??? #ifyasmell,” tweeted the Brahma Bull.

A bout against Roman Reigns was hinted in a recent episode of Young Rock, a show that recounts the early days of WWE Superstar The Rock. The programme includes a sequence in which a teenage Roman Reigns challenges an up-and-coming Dwayne Johnson to a match. The Brahma Bull answered by claiming that the world isn’t ready for a match of that size, and that such a match could only happen at WrestleMania.

During the most recent episode of WWE Evil, Roman Reigns declared his desire to meet his cousin in a bout. The Rock also wants this bout to happen, according to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer, but preparations keep getting pushed back due to a variety of factors. For the time being, this highly awaited match is merely a rumour. With the current Undisputed WWE Universal Champion eager to face his cousin, it will be interesting to see whether the stars align for this match to take place.
