Mick Schumacher is presently enduring a “bitter” taste at American-based racing team Haas and could fall through the cracks in Formula One if he does not achieve better, cautions two-time World Rally title holder Walter Röhrl.

After Russian driver Nikita Mazepin was stripped away from his seat at Haas, Kevin Magnussen decided to return to the team as a late replacement at the start of the 2022 season of Formula One, and the more skilled Dane has tucked back in effortlessly and outshone Schumacher this season as of now.

The Dane has 15 points so far in this season, while the German is still yet to score his first point in Formula 1, and has been involved in a bunch of high-paced and exorbitant accidents that will not have helped him within the team.

“That is currently bitter for Mick Schumacher, because Kevin Magnussen, who has returned to Formula 1 after a one-year break, has him well in hand. That puts additional pressure on him, brings explosiveness into the team and doesn’t make it any easier. He simply has far too many accidents at the moment, all of which cost a lot, a lot of money. If nothing comes, they won’t keep going indefinitely. Formula 1 is brutal and cold,” said Walter Röhrl, a four-time Monte Carlo Rally winner.

After Schumacher’s substantial blockage in Monaco, which saw him delve deep into the barrier in the Swimming Pool section after running ’10 centimetres too wide,’ team boss Guenther Steiner conceded that Haas “need to see how they move forward from here” in terms of finances.

The tension and pride that comes with having to carry the Schumacher title in the Formula 1 paddock is not forgotten on the Haas driver, but Röhrl cautioned that he may not have had the blatant innate talent of his father 7-time Formula One world champion Michael Schumacher, and that he would need to grab effort within the team sooner than expected.
