Guenther Steiner believes Haas ‘can fight harder’ with new upgrades coming for VF-22

Haas
Guenther Steiner the Haas team principal has recently shed light on the team’s aspirations for the 2022 season and how important it is for them to stay in the midfield fight, moreover, the Italian-American has also indicated that the upcoming new upgrades are going to further help the team in achieving its targets for the current season.
Haas had a very tumultuous start to 2022 but as the season has progressed they have improved and are now in 7th position in the Constructors Championship ahead of teams like Aston Martin and AlphaTauri.
The VF-22 barring the reliability issues has been mega in terms of pace and this is one of the main reasons why they are in 7h at the moment.
Ferrari is the engine supplier for the Haas F1 team and just like the Italian outfit, Haas has also had their fair share of gremlins on their car. However, despite the issues, Guenther Steiner is optimistic about the upgrades that are coming their way.
While talking about them Steiner said, “I’m always careful with upgrades, whatever we do, so I’m not going to say how much we will go faster.”
“But if we go faster, that will help, and hopefully, we can fight even harder. It’s hard to create the experience, but we had it in 2019, and we learned [about the risks of introducing upgrades]. We have learned this year.”

“Everybody brought upgrades in Barcelona, and we still finish sixth and eighth [in Austria], and we didn’t have any upgrades.”
“So it’s a lot of publicity with these upgrades at times. I really want to show it’s not publicity, but it’s lap-time.”
Guenther Steiner on teams targets for this season

Haas is currently in 7th position in the Constructors Championship after leapfrogging AlphaTauri and while talking about the team’s objectives for the current season, Steiner said, “That’s the target (P7 in the Constructors), who knows if we can do better. We cannot say we will stay there. You need to improve to make sure you at least stay where you are. You need to aim high…”
“We will obviously try to get as many points as possible at each race and finish as high as possible, but we are not going to stay where we are and cruise around in seventh.”
The current season has got only 11 races left and given the way the standings are at the moment, Haas has got to find ways to get on top of their reliability issues because AlphaTauri is right on their heels with a gap of just 7 points between them.
AlphaTauri is set to have a thorough inspection on why the team has struggled this season and is looking to bring quite a few upgrades for the French Grand Prix.

Haas has got a still challenge ahead of them and given that their upgrades are also not too far away, the second leg of the season is going to be a mouth-watering affair, and will be fascinating to see if Haas would be able to hang on to 7th till the last race of the season in Abu Dhabi.
