“Definitely should have gone for it,” Broncos HC Nathaniel Hackett REGRETS bold 64-yard FG decision sidelining Russell Wilson

The Denver Broncos were the team to beat, after their crazy trade moves in the offseason. With Russell Wilson in their ranks, they were supposed to roll over the highly weakened Seattle Seahawks in their season opener.

The Broncos, however, folded to a meek 17-16 defeat with head coach Nathaniel Hackett making a huge tactical blunder during the closing moments of the encounter. With only 21 seconds remaining on the clock in the fourth quarter, the Broncos received possession on the 4th down but failed to convert it into a touchdown.

Head coach, Hackett decided to pull out a surprise as he brought on kicker Brandon McManus to attempt a humongous 64-yard field goal, one which would go down in the record books if it had been scored. Needless to say, the ball went way wide off the post, and the chance went begging.

However, Broncos’ rookie head coach, Nathaniel Hackett finally admitted that he should have let Russell Wilson take over the reins at that crucial juncture, given the amount of quality his quarterback has. The decision to not hand Wilson the ball, was one of the weirdest ones seen in recent times, and even Hackett seems to have realized that after the game.

“Looking back at it definitely should have gone for it,” Hackett said in his post-match press conference. “One of those things, you look back at it and say ‘of course, we should go for it, we missed the field goal.’ But in that situation we had a plan, we knew 46 was the mark.”

Looking back on the decision, Russell Wilson also must feel a bit hard done by, as he did not have a great game against his former franchise. The 33-year-old quarterback could have received a chance to shine and end up having the final say in the game, instead of ending up on the losing side.
