Zion Williamson put rookie Walker Kessler on a poster on Wednesday in a game against the Utah Jazz. With 10.06 remaining on the clock in the 2nd quarter, the Pelicans were leading by 31-34 when their young stud had the rookie defending him. For Kessler, this was perhaps the worst introduction to the toughest basketball showdown, when he was left hanging in the air alongside Williamson. 

The scouting report said that Williamson tends to go to his left and perhaps Kessler was doing just that as he tried to close the Pelicans star on the same side. To Walker’s surprise, Zion took two dribbles on his right from the top of the key and dunked over the helpless rookie who anyway stood no chance against Williamson. 

You have to give credit to Kessler for not giving up on the play. Zion was already a step ahead of him, but he still did his best to try and block the shot.

The Jazz rookie has actually emerged as one of the top shot-blockers in the league this season, swatting away 1.8 shot attempts per game. Williamson probably knew all about it, so he decided to go strong towards the basket.

New Orleans Pelicans have taken the top spot in the Western Conference with an 18-9 record. Zion Williamson was declared player of the week for the Western Conference. When everything was going perfectly for the Pelicans, they suffered one of the most embarrassing losses of the season as they lost to the Utah Jazz by 100-121 on Tuesday.

The former team came into the game with two impressive consecutive wins against the Phoenix Suns. 

6 of the Utah Jazz players scored in double digits and five of them score 15+ points in the win against the Pelicans. Malick Beasley scored team-high 21 points. Markeeanen and Alexander Walker each scored 19 points.

Leading the Pelicans’ offense Williamson scored 26 points and made 10 of 16 shots from the field. Valanciunas and CJ McCollum both scored 15 and 14 points respectively both weren’t enough to come through the Jazz’ team effort.
