Earlier, Sachin Tendulkar was part of Mumbai Indians. He was the first skipper of the blue jerseys and led the team from 2008 to 2011. Later, Harbhajan Singh replaced Tendulkar in the fifth season. In the next season, the captaincy was handed to Rohit and he has been the leader of the team since then.

For MI, Tendulkar has played 78 matches (from 2008 to 2013), and amassed 2334 runs at a strike rate of 119.82. His highest score was his only century; he also smashed 13 half-centuries.

MI won their first trophy in 2013 under Rohit. Then they lifted the cup in 2015 and 2017. In the 2019 IPL season, they thrashed arch-rivals Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to become the champions for the fourth time.

Till IPL 2019, MI won the title only in odd years. They broke the superstition and defended their title in 2020 also. Ishan Kishan was the star batter, while Jasprit Bumrah was the pick of the bowlers for them.

However, the 2022 season was horrible for the five-time champions. They won just four of the 14 matches and were at the bottom of the points table.
