“A fiery spell!”- Twitter reacts as Taskin Ahmed becomes first bowler to open T20 World Cup innings with two back to back wickets

Taskin Ahmed
Bangladesh and the Netherlands have opened their T20 World Cup campaign on Monday [October 24] at the Blundstone Arena in Hobart. The latter however was restricted to 135 courtsey of Taskin Ahmed‘s four-wicket haul.
Netherlands won the toss and opted to bowl first. Despite Bangladesh’ slow start, Afif Hossain’s 38-run knock at least stabilize the innings. But Mosaddek Hossain’s quick 20 runs from 12 balls had guide them to 144/8 in 20 overs.
The Netherlands didn’t get off to a flying start. Taskin bowled opener Vikramjit Singh for a golden duck on the very first over of the innings. Ahmad then dismissed Bas de Leede on golden duck too on the next ball.
Max O’Dowd could add only eight runs, while Tim Cooper was dismissed on a run-out by Najmul Hossain Shanto. Only Colin Ackermann played like a lone warrior with his knock of 62 runs off 48 balls including six fours and two sixes at a strike rate of 129.17.
But on the last ball of the 17th over, Taskin was the bowler again to send back Ackermann. Taskin bowled a short one and Ackermann looked to pull but the ball got big on him. It went off the top edge and Mosaddek grabbed the catch.
Skipper and wicketkeeper Scott Edward scored 16 runs off 24 balls with a four before Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan sent him back in the 12th over. Shakib slowed the ball and threw on the middle. Edwards brought out the reverse sweep but failed to get the power behind and hit it straight to the fielder at point.
Paul van Meekeren then failed to guide his team to victory when Soumya Sarkar dismissed him on the last ball of the innings. Meekeran departed after scoring 24 runs off 14 balls.
