The 17th match of this ongoing T20 World Cup is being played between Bangladesh and the Netherlands on Monday [October 24] at the Blundstone Arena in Hobart. Bangladesh could score 144/8 in 20 overs with the help of Mosaddek Hossain’s finishing touches.

The Netherlands won the toss and opted to bowl first. Najmul Hossain Shanto and Soumya Sarkar walked out to open and gave a good start to the innings.

Sarkar was the first one to depart after scoring 14 runs off 14 balls (with two fours) in the sixth over. Paul van Meekeren gave this desired breakthrough when his short ball made Sarkar go for a pull shot but he smashed it from the higher part of the bat to the mid-wicket. Bas de Leede ran forward, slid and grabbed the catch.

Shanto departed after a 20-ball 25-run knock (with four fours) off Tim Pringle’s delivery in the next over. Shanto attempted to slog-sweep to Pringle’s full ball but top-edged it and the ball fell into the hands of Logan van Beek at deep mid-wicket.

Litton Das and Shakib Al Hasan fell cheaply on nine and seven runs respectively. But Afif Hossain steadied the ship with his 27-ball 38 runs (with two fours and two sixes) before he attempted a pull shot off Bas de Leede but Scott Edwards took the catch in the 18th over.

Yasir Ali and Nurul Hasan departed on three and 13 runs, while Taskin Ahmed was dismissed on golden duck in the 19th over. Mosaddek Hossain, however, finished the innings, scoring 20 runs off 12 balls with two fours and a six at a strike rate of 166.67 to guide his team to a decent total of 144/8 in their allotted 20 overs.

Van Meekran and de Leede bagged two wickets each, while Fred Klaassen, Pringle, Shariz Ahmad, and Logan van Beek scalped one wicket each. The Netherlands have qualified for the Super 12 stage and are playing their first match. Bangladesh have already qualified and this is their campaign opener.
