‘A huge honor,’ Kyle Larson and Chase Elliott set to be part of the NASCAR Hall of Fame Class of 2023 selection panel
Kyle Larson and Chase Elliot
The reigning Cup Series Champion Kyle Larson and 2020 Cup series champion Chase Elliott will be part of the selection panel for the 2023 class of NASCAR Hall of Famers. Kyle Larson got his seat in the panel as he is the defending champion in Cup Series and Chase Elliott secured his seat thanks to his 2020 championship win and the absence of the 2022 class of NASCAR Hall of Famers selection.
The Hendrick Motorsports duo will take part in the voting process alongside other 60 members who will be representatives from NASCAR and the NASCAR Hall of Fame, media members, track owners, industry leaders, and retired competitors. The fan vote that is conducted at NASCAR.com will be taken as the 63ed vote.
There are 15 nominees to choose from for the duo for the NASCAR Hall of Fame Class of 2023 in which 2 individuals will be selected from 10 people Modern Era ballot and 1 individual will be taken from a five-person Pioneer Ballot. They will also vote on the Landmark Award ballot from five nominees.
“It’s definitely an honor,” Kyle Larson on voting in Hall of Fame selection
Reigning Cup Series Champion Kyle Larson acknowledged that it’s an honor for him to be part of the process and added that it’s neet that NASCAR has the current champion on the selection panel. He went on to add he will take the process seriously as “it’s a huge honor” for the nominees as well as inductees.
“It’s definitely an honor and neat that they have the current champion on the panel. Everybody’s goal is to make it to the Hall of Fame. I will take it very seriously because it’s a huge honor for the people who’ve been nominated and who make it in,” Kyle Larson said.
Kyle Larson added that he will be consulting NASCAR legend Jeff Gordon and his teammate ad 2020 Cup Series Champion Chase Elliott before taking a decision. He went on to reiterate that it was a huge honor for him and shared his optimism that he will one day be among the nominees for the honor.
“I’ll probably talk to Jeff Gordon. Probably talk to Chase about it. Once I see those names (on the voting panel), I’ll be able to talk and see if there are certain standards that they live by with their voting. I’m just really excited to do it. It’s just an honor and hopefully, I can be one that’s nominated someday,” Kyle Larson added.
Kyle Larson and Chase Elliott have a big task in hand as the nominees include Harry Hyde, who was a crew chief at Hendrick Motorsports from 1984 to 1988, and Ricky Rudd, who drove for Hendrick Motorsports from 1990 to 1993 in the No. 5 Chevrolet, which is now driven by Kyle Larson.
