‘A maestro of football’: PM Narendra Modi condoles demise of football legend Diego Maradona

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to Argentine football legend Diego Maradona, who passed away on Wednesday. Maradona died at the age of 60 years after suffering from a cardiac arrest at his home.
Argentina and Napoli great Maradona was discharged from hospital a fortnight ago following brain surgery. The World Cup winner got admitted to hospital due to concerns over anaemia and dehydration.

PM wrote: “Diego Maradona was a maestro of football, who enjoyed global popularity. Throughout his career, he gave us some of the best sporting moments on the football field. His untimely demise has saddened us all. May his soul rest in peace.”
Widely regarded as one of the greatest footballers of all time, Maradona played a crucial role in Argentina’s World Cup victory in 1986. He was also one of the two footballers (the other being Pele) to be honoured with the FIFA Player of the Century award in 2000.
RIP “God of Football”: Kiren Rijiju
Union Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju penned an emotional message as he joined millions in bidding Maradona farewell. Rijiju shares that he was lucky to witness the 1986 World Cup winner play live. He went on to hail his unparalleled legacy in his emotional tribute to Maradona.
PM Modi wrote, “There will be no another Maradona born again. He is the first Football Superstar we saw live on television. I couldn’t see the live game of great Pele and mesmerizing Garrincha playing but I’m extremely lucky to see the live magic of MARADONA! RIP “God of Football”.
Goa minister Michael Lobo said that he would install a statue of Diego Maradona in the coastal belt of North district inspiring the upcoming footballers and young students. Lobo told ANI, “I, not the Goa government, will install the statue of Diego Maradona in the coastal belt of North district to inspire Goan youth.”
The attacker made 91 appearances for Argentina, scoring 34 goals. He played 259 games for Napoli, netting the ball on 115 occasions.
