“A spell that lands you in IPL!”- Netizens heap praises on Gareth Delany as his standout bowling puts West Indies’ World Cup hopes in jeopardy

Nicholas Pooran‘s West Indies will keep their hopes alive for the Super 12 stage if they beat Ireland in their last match of the Group B stage. They scored a decent 146/5 in 20 overs on Friday, October 21, at the Blundstone Arena in Hobart.
West Indies won the toss and opted to bat first. Brandon Kings‘ quickfire, along with Odean Smith’s finish, did the job for the team when the top-order faltered to contribute runs. Openers Kyle Mayers faced five balls and scored just one run. Johnson Charles scored an 18-ball 24 runs with three fours and a six before Simi Singh dismissed him in the fifth over.
Evin Lewis’s slow innings saw him scoring 13 runs off 18 balls, and in the 11th over, Gareth Delany dismissed him with a googly (outside off-stump). Pooran added just 13 runs from 11 balls with a six, and Delany was the bowler again, to dismiss the skipper. Delany dismissed Rovman Powell too on six runs off eight balls.
But when the two-time T20 World Cup winners kept losing wickets from one end, King’s innings added stability to some extent. He remained not out on 62 runs off 48 balls (with six fours and a six). He was helped by Smith’s 12-ball 19-run knock (with four and two sixes) to help his team put on a total of 146/5 in their allotted 20 overs.
Among the Irish bowlers, Delany picked up three wickets and gave 16 runs in his full quota of four overs at a brilliant economy of 4.00. Barry McCarthy and Simi scalped one wicket each.
