Aaron Rodgers’ abysmal outing against Vikings has Jets fans thinking about Zach Wilson

Aaron Rodgers’ performance in week 5 seemed to have reminded fans of the abysmal 2023 season with quarterback Zach Wilson. But with a sense of regret for blaming the latter for the fiasco and forcing him out of the team, as they begin questioning if Wilson wasn’t the problem for the New York Jets. 

It happened after the Jets’ quarterback Rodgers threw two interceptions in the first 15 minutes of the game against the Minnesota Vikings. First, he threw a rushed pass which was intercepted by the Vikings’ star Andrew Van Ginkel, who returned it to a 63-yard touchdown and recorded his second six-pick of the season. 

The second happened a few plays after that when he attempted a deep pass but ended up being intercepted by safety Camryn Bynum. This brought the Vikings a 17-0 lead and a few minutes before the halftime, the Jets managed to put seven points on the board. Unfortunately, the game ended with Minnesota’s five-game winning streak with a 23-17 feat against the Jets. 

With no noticeable improvement in the offense compared to last season, the Jets have fallen to a 2-3 season standing. The veteran quarterback finished the game with 224 yards, two touchdowns, and three touchdowns. 

Meanwhile, Wilson– who was traded to the Denver Broncos this season, proved himself reliable to his new team in the offseason. Although they decided to go forward with rookie Bo Nix as the starter, Wilson is said to be a reliable backup.

Fans aren’t focusing on whether Wilson gave a standout performance in Denver, they simply seem to believe that maybe, it wasn’t the young quarterback’s fault that the Jets became the first team in the NFL to be eliminated from the playoff race. Despite the best of efforts, the situation in New York doesn’t seem to be improving and fans have started to believe maybe the problem isn’t the quarterback room. 

However, the Jets’ fans are being trolled for jumping back and forth between Rodgers and Wilson. NFL memes tweeted, “The Jets going from Zach Wilson to Aaron Rodgers.” One fan wrote, “Oh man. Aaron Rodgers looking more like Zach Wilson so far today.” Here are some of the fan reactions:

The majority of the fans compared the Jets’ current offense to last season’s, claiming there haven’t been any improvements. They were eliminated from the playoffs at 7-10 in 2023 and based on how this season is going, fans seem to believe the Jets might not make it to the playoffs again.
