Following the New York Jets’ abrupt decision to fire head coach Robert Saleh, a barrage of comments began to target Aaron Rodgers for having influenced owner Woody Johnson to make this call. The spotlight quickly went from Saleh’s firing to the impact that Rodgers has within the Jets organization.
Think about it, the New York Jets scrambled to bring Allen Lazard, and Randall Cobb, and facilitate all of Aaron Rodgers‘ requests before he signed with the organization. The hiring of Nathaniel Hackett as the offensive coordinator for the Jets was also a decision that the quarterback was suspected to have played a role in facilitating. But the quarterback made it clear on the Pat McAfee Show that he held absolutely no sway in influencing the coaching decisions of the team.
Now that Robert Saleh is out as the head coach, the Jets have appointed Jeff Ulbrich as the interim head coach. However, there is a good chance that Ulbrich would consider relieving Nathaniel Hackett of his duties as offensive coordinator by demoting him. The question is would Aaron Rodgers be fine with a new OC considering his history with Hackett?
Aaron Rodgers is open to the decisions that Jeff Ulbrich will make
The four-time NFL MVP had his best numbers with Hackett as his OC. However, that has not been the story in New York. Aaron Rodgers made it clear that he would be open to a change in offensive coordinator position if Jeff Ulbrich deems it to be the right decision.

We just haven’t played consistent football on offense…At this point Ulbrich & I have talked a couple times and I’m on board with whatever he decides…I wanna do what’s best for the team and we’re throwing our support behind Coach Ulbrich.

While nothing is official yet, there has been talk of Todd Downing stepping in as the offensive coordinator for the Jets. Rodgers is tired of the narrative that he makes the coaching decisions for the Jets. As can be inferred from the quarterback’s comments, he is interested in winning, and whatever decision ought to be taken to achieve that goal, he is fine with it.

Before being fired, Robert Saleh was considering parting ways with Nathaniel Hackett as per CBS Sports. Ironically, Saleh faced the sharp end of the axe on Tuesday, when he was expected to cut Hackett. The immediate replacement that he had in mind was Downing.
It will not be surprising to see Hackett lose his control over the offense. Despite having the pieces to succeed, the team has one of the worst-ranked offenses in the NFL this season. Rodgers has never looked as helpless as he did in the Jets’ loss to the Denver Broncos. After that game, it was clear that somebody in the building was going to lose their job.
