Aaron Rodgers’ second year in New York did not proceed according to his wishes. The Jets currently sit on a 4-10 record, and there are speculations that the Big Apple team may draft a new quarterback with hopes of developing him as the next shot-caller for the team.

This throws Rodgers’ future with the Jets into question. He has plans to be in New York for a while, and if the franchise decides to draft a rookie QB, he will be happy to mentor him.

If they asked me back and they drafted a guy, I would mentor the hell out of him if I was playing. And I would try to play as well as I could to keep him on the bench.

Aaron Rodgers said, as per Antwan V. Staley of New York Daily News.

Rodgers’ stance appears to be much different from back when his former team, the Green Bay Packers, drafted Jordan Love in 2020. According to reports, he wasn’t too keen on assuming the role of the mentor for the former ND State starter. When asked, Rodgers revealed going through a bad patch of results influenced his decisions very much.

When they [Green Bay Packers] drafted Jordan [Love], I felt like I was one bad stretch away from being benched and I won MVP a couple of years. You gotta prove it every single week through stretches.

Aaron Rodgers added.

At 41, Rodgers barely has the MVP gene left in him. However, it makes sense to keep the Super Bowl winner around for the time being.

Aaron Rodgers reveals his 2025 off-season plans

The Jets are in a position in which anything can happen. Owner Woody Johnson seems fed up with constant mediocrity and wants to turn the culture around in his team. If firing Robert Saleh and Joe Douglas is any sign, then hardly anyone’s job is safe.

The Jets will decide whether to keep Rodgers around for one more year in the offseason. The veteran, on the other hand, will take the next step of his career based on the whims of Johnson.

I’m going to take some time after the year… unless I get released right away.

Aaron Rodgers said.

The Jets will appoint a new head coach next year; at least it won’t be Bill Belichick. Regardless of who takes over, they will come with a vision of their own. If it doesn’t include Rodgers, then he has to pack his bags. If the Jets do keep him for one more year, then the rookie gets a top-notch player to learn under who threw for 3255 yards and 23 touchdowns in 14 games this year.
