Aaron Rodgers usually steers clear of drinking beer unless it’s Guinness. He developed a taste for the renowned beer brand in the States, but always dreamed of drinking a pint straight from a tap at a pub in Ireland.

Rodgers got lucky, as the Pittsburgh Steelers’ schedule led them to the Republic of Ireland to face off against the Minnesota Vikings in week 4. The AFC North team arrived in Dublin on Friday morning, two days before the tie at Cork Park.

According to ESPN’s Brooke Pryor, the Steelers settled in at a hotel an hour outside of Dublin City Centre, surrounded by practice fields.

Speaking with the media, Rodgers revealed that he hoped to land in Ireland a few days earlier to browse around the local pubs and drink Guinness.

I’m a huge fan of Guinness. I don’t really drink beer, but if I do, I drink Guinness. That’s not a bulls*** line that I’m telling you guys. It’s the truth. I’ve heard it tastes different off the tap in Ireland than in the States.

NFL teams are responsible for determining their travel schedules. Steelers owner Art Rooney revealed that the travel plans were developed jointly with the league.

As the league is in the middle of the season, they had no other option but to prioritize training over saving time for sightseeing in Ireland.

I would’ve liked to have the guys over here for a few more days, too. But we’re in the middle of the season, so we had to do what’s best for the football side of things.

Rodgers still has a couple of days to taste his favorite drink. At the very least, he can always fall back on his secret blend that he named “fountain of youth.”

Aaron Rodgers nearly signed for the Vikings

Rodgers won’t forget the 2025 offseason any time soon. He entered free agency for the first time since going pro, forcing him to contemplate retirement for a brief period.

The football world expressed relief when the 41-year-old decided to prolong his career. Several teams inquired about his services, including the New York Giants, the Steelers, and the Vikings.

Brian Daboll pressed Rodgers heavily to sign with the Giants, but he refused to stick around in the Big Apple. Rodgers wanted to play for the Vikings and follow in the footsteps of his mentor and predecessor at the Green Bay Packers, Brett Favre.

The Vikings locker room had an opening at the quarterback spot. Sam Darnold’s departure raised a few eyebrows, but head coach Kevin O’Connell clarified that they wanted JJ McCarthy as the starter in 2025.

O’Connell turned down the chance to sign Rodgers. With the Vikings closing their doors, Rodgers decided to sign a one-year contract with the Steelers to play under Mike Tomlin.

Since then, the Steelers are 2-1 with wins over the Carolina Panthers and the New York Jets. Their only defeat came at the hands of the Seattle Seahawks in Week 2.

The Vikings, meanwhile, lost McCarthy to an ankle injury in the Week 2 loss to the Atlanta Falcons. Veteran Carson Wentz started under center against the Cincinnati Bengals the following week, securing a much-needed win to improve the Vikings’ record to 2-1.

These two teams have met 18 times in the past. The NFC team leads the series 10-8.
