After disastrous two years with the New York Jets, the four-time NFL MVP and former Super Bowl champion, Aaron Rodgers, joined the Pittsburgh Steelers this offseason. At 41, Rodgers is at the swansong of his career, and he wants to go out in style.
In the NFL world, going out in style means only one thing: the Super Bowl. The veteran quarterback has them in his sights and he also thinks his squad got what it takes to win one. In a recent media availability, Rodgers revealed that he thinks the Steelers are one of the twelve teams with a legitimate chance to win the trophy.
I think that there’s really only six to eight that really have a legitimate chance. Sometimes it’s 10 to 12, and there’s teams that surprise you, but I would say on paper we’re probably one of those 10 to 12.
Rodgers’ claims stem from his interactions with the players and the rest of the personnel during break times and snack hours. He expressed that the chemistry during the very crucial times are a sign of the team coming together to end the long wait.
I think it’s coming together, you know, times like this with these 17 or so practices that we have here and finding the chemistry and hanging out with each other in the lunchroom and snack and the different times that we have and, you know, growing together through our practice.
Amid the spiel, he also had a rare insight into the practices in Pittsburgh. In his own way, he shot a non-confrontational shade at Mike Tomlin’s tactics and ways. Rodgers expressed that the coach conducted practices during the hottest times of the day and that lets the team know how they respond to the stressor factor, heat.
Aaron Rodgers’ Steelers make no other lists than his own
The Kansas City Chiefs and the Buffalo Bills have made the past ten and six playoff appearances from the AFC. In the past five seasons, the Chiefs have made the AFC Championship game all five times. They have ended on the winning side four times. The Bengals made it twice and won once. The Bills made it twice and the Ravens made it once.

The last time the Steelers made the conference game was way back in the 2016-17 season. They had lost to the New England Patriots then. In the seasons since, the Steelers have made the playoffs considerable number of times but their win rate in postseason is not something to write home about.
Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk took a shot at identifying the teams with a chance to win the league this time. Florio identified the Kansas City Chiefs, Buffalo Bills, Baltimore Ravens, Cincinnati Bengals, and the Houston Texans as the ones with a true window this year.
He added that the Denver Broncos and the Los Angeles Chargers can strong-arm and maybe make the playoffs. The Steelers potentially belong to the 12 teams that may swing either way, in the middle of the “teams that are in” or the “teams that are definitely not in.”
After initial rumors of a tank season, the Steelers have gotten to work in this offseason. They packed up one of the wideouts whom they have shared some troubles while bringing in several options. They traded in Jalen Ramsey and DK Metcalf while signing TJ Watt to an extension. Are these enough for a chance? Maybe, maybe not. There’s a long way to go, especially for Rodgers himself.
