The New York Jets dysfunction has seen owner Woody Johnson, and his family come under criticism for their handling of the franchise. In between all that, the future of superstar quarterback Aaron Rodgers has propped up as a major question mark.

The 41-year-old did not have a season worth remembering as his play was one of the major reasons the Jets struggled all season long. He was defiant and tried to deflect blame quite a few times, which did not sit well with fans and analysts.

His back-and-forth with ESPN analysts who criticized his game could have carried some weight had his play been decent. The Jets’ previous did not help matters as the QB’s performance was atrocious. It made matters worse when his backup ended up playing much better football in just one quarter.

These situations have added fuel to the fire about questions on his future with the Jets. When ESPN’s Rich Cimini asked him if the upcoming Week 18 matchup could be the last with the New York Jets, the four-time MVP replied.

I’m just more resigned to the reality of the situation. I think there’s going to be change here, and if I’m a part of the change, then I just want to make sure everybody knows I have nothing but gratitude for my time here.

While quoting this statement in his article, Cimini cited that Rodgers sounded as if he is contemplating retirement. The decisions the New York Jets take in March will give him an indication about his future.

Aaron Rodgers grateful for 20 years in football

Aaron Rodgers spoke a lot when quizzed about his time with the Jets, often referring to the relationships he built with those that work there. He also talked about being grateful for these past two years. When asked if the game against the Miami Dolphins could be his last, he replied.

Yeah, of course. A lot of gratitude for the last 20 years. This game has given me a lot. Of course, it’s been a long career. I’m really proud of what I’ve been able to be a part of, what I’ve been able to accomplish, and I’m also looking forward to a nice mental and physical rest.

These words almost confirm Rich Cimini’s notions that there is a possibility that Aaron Rodgers calls it quits come March. If the New York Jets do prefer to go in a different direction, there might not be another team who would want to take a chance on a 41-year-old quarterback.

There are a few quarterback-needy teams heading into next season with only two top quarterback prospects in the draft. But his awful performances this season have not helped his position. All these aspects point to the fact that 5th January could be the last time Rodgers plays professional football.
