- Abner Uribe faced backlash for performing a D-Generation X Chop celebration after an inning-ending strikeout against the Cardinals.
- He apologized to his teammates and coaches but did not extend an apology to the Cardinals, citing their manager's actions as unprofessional.
- Manager Pat Murphy deemed Uribe's celebration unacceptable, expressing embarrassment over the incident during a 6-0 game.
Milwaukee Brewers’ Abner Uribe has landed in hot water. On Tuesday, the pitcher dropped the D-Generation X Chop celebration against the St. Louis Cardinals after striking out the side in the 8th inning.
Uribe entered the game at the top of the 8th inning. The Brewers were leading 6-0 and were on the way towards a comfortable win.
After Victor Scott II grounded out, Uribe struck out JJ Wetherholt. The Dominican international then gave up a walk to Ivan Herrera and a single to Jordan Walker, which made things interesting.
He then went up against Alec Burleson. The pitcher avoided giving up any runs as he struck out the Cardinals’ hitter to end the inning. His actions after this went viral as he turned towards the Cardinals’ dugout and made three DX-style crotch chops.

The Cardinals had also challenged the pitch. Upon replay, the pitch was just inside for a strike. Had it been a ball, the call would have been overturned, which could have led to ramifications.
Uribe would not pitch again. Manager Pat Murphy replaced him with Trevor Megill at the top of the 9th inning. He closed out the game and helped the Brewers shut out their division rivals.
However, Uribe’s actions became the talking point of this game. In a conversation with the reporters after the game, he apologized to his teammates. He, though, did not apologize to the Cardinals.
I owe an apology to the Brewers, I owe an apology to my teammates, to my manager, all the bosses of the team.

He then directed some blame to the Cardinals. The 25-year-old expressed that he saw Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol making some signs towards his players.
I don’t think it’s professional for their manager to be making signs toward our dugout saying that he’s going to be hitting guys. There was an event that occurred during the practice today, too, and I don’t think that was right. So, I have my teammates’ back always.

Social media reacts to Abner Uribe’s celebration
Abner Uribe channeled his inner DX energy on Tuesday against the St. Louis Cardinals after an inning-ending strikeout. This celebration landed him in some trouble as several social media users blasted him.

Many users on X called him out for this. While there were some who defended him, the majority of them were not pleased with this. One of them wrote, “beyond childish for a MLB player,” while taking a swipe at him.
Check out that and some more reactions below:

Even us Brewers fans are embarrassed by this.

That was a stupid thing to do when you're up 6-0. One of our guys will get plunked tomorrow or most likely in St. Louis.

A whole lot for a guy who gave up a walk off 3 run bomb after 2 back to back full count walks a week ago

That pitcher needs to be taught a lesson!! How not to be an Idiot!!

Dude is going to get someone or a couple others tagged for that. He should maybe get fined for that.

no way the MLB is turning soft like the NBA and NFL

That’s 3 thrusts man you can’t do that
— . (@SheistyJudge) May 27, 2026
doing that against a team rebuilding is one thing.. doing it with a 4.42 era is another
— Eddy Wynn (@Mizzou_Cards_NO) May 27, 2026
That seems aggressive and problematic

Uribe could face suspension from the MLB following this celebration. In 2024, he was handed a 6-game suspension after throwing a punch in a benches-clearing incident against the Tampa Bay Rays.
Pat Murphy calls Abner Uribe’s celebration as unacceptable
Abner Uribe’s actions on Tuesday did not sit well with many. His manager, Pat Murphy, was one of those who was left shaking his head after this incident. In the press conference, he claimed that it was unacceptable.

While speaking to the reporters, Murphy did add that he loves Uribe. However, he expressed that there was no need for such antics at that time.
It’s just unacceptable. I don’t know what got over him. … I was embarrassed by it. Why are we doing it in a 6-0 game? What are we doing there? There must be something deeper that I don’t know about.

The right-handed pitcher has a 2-2 record in 21 games this season. He has pitched with a 4.19 ERA in 19.1 innings and has picked up 21 strikeouts while giving up 9 runs.
It now remains to be seen what happens with him. Earlier this month, the San Francisco Giants also came under the spotlight for their “thrust” celebrations after a win. The team did receive a word from the MLB regarding that.
