When WWE faltered and couldn’t come up with more creative plans for Edge, he simply jumped ship to AEW. Though the move was anticipated by many, it still blew away some stereotypical mindsets. Adam ‘Edge’ Copeland arrived in All Elite Wrestling at WrestleDream pay-per-view. Following the event, Cope encountered a mixed bag of fan reactions. Some even thought he should’ve stayed loyal to WWE.
In a recent conversation with Adrian Hernandez, the 50-year-old legend broke his silence on the matter. Adam discussed how some people have a sort of brand allegiance, which halts their state of mind. Also, he shot down farcical accusations of being a traitor as he left WWE, saying he bid adieu on great terms and had no malice for them.
You know, it’s interesting. Just in terms of, I guess, how people have like almost a brand allegiance or a team allegiance kind of thing. For me, I knew there was gonna be some fan base in switching companies that [said], ‘Oh, he’s a traitor.’ But, man, nobody’s a traitor. In some of the posts he made on X, Adam Copeland revealed what took him away from the Stamford-based promotion. The Hall of Famer subtly hinted that his ties with WWE grew apart, and they didn’t have anything left for him to do. As a result, he had to take that step to explore options outside the realm of WWE.
Still, Edge asked his fanbase to acknowledge his decision and value both companies. In what was his final hurrah in WWE, he wrestled Sheamus in front of his people in Toronto. The Rated-R Superstar affirmed that there couldn’t have been a better way for him to wrap up his illustrious WWE career.
Adam Copeland emerged victorious at AEW Full Gear last Sunday
This past Sunday, Adam Copeland featured in his first-ever pay-per-view match at AEW Full Gear. Having said that, he joined forces with Sting and Darby Allin to battle The Patriarchy (Christian Cage, Luchasaurus, and Nick Wayne). This opener helped the crowd get a preview of what was coming their way by the end of that night. Several close pinfalls embellished the six-man tag team match.
Edge almost won it for his team after he executed a Russian leg sweep and a swinging neckbreaker on Luchasaurus. Later on in the match, Ric Flair also made his presence felt but was quickly taken out of the equation after Christian hit him with a low blow.
Cage’s woes were aggravated when he inadvertently struck Luchasaurus with the AEW TNT title. Christian then left Wayne and Luchasaurus alone in the match which eventually pushed his team into the jaws of defeat.
