Maxwell Jacob Friedman is one of the hottest superstars, not just in AEW but in the whole wrestling world. He has been the World Champion for over a year now. Previously, rumors spread that his contract was expiring and there would possibly be a big bidding war between both wrestling companies for him. However, WWE reportedly didn’t send an offer, as the company believes that MJF has re-signed with AEW.
As a result, the 27-year-old refuted the reports recently. The Devil spoke with Jimmy Traina of SI Media, where he talked about his whole contract situation. He expressed that, although he has not signed with AEW, he loves the company and wants to stay.
I’ve never lied. January 1, 2024. When stuff like that gets leaked out, it makes me laugh because I remember something got leaked out about Cody having secretly re-signed, and then he showed up. Something got leaked out about CM Punk and Tony Khan are actually fine.MJF on his contract situation
The World Champion also compared his situation to the false rumors about two former AEW stars, Cody Rhodes and CM Punk. MJF concluded the topic by revealing he would professionally assess it after the AEW Worlds End PPV on December 30.
The 27-year-old superstar was recently spotted with WWE legend John Cena at a movie promotion, sparking a lot of rumors. Amidst all this confusion about his contract, some fans think that MJF has already signed a new deal with AEW but is keeping this a secret. It will be interesting to see whether The Devil will become the new hottest free agent or if he will still be the AEW World Champion and continue his career.
MJF talks about being the locker room leader in AEW
Being an AEW World Champion sure puts a lot of responsibilities on the wrestler. MJF talked about whether he feels like a locker room leader at the age of 27. Needless to say, his answer was quite positive.
During an interview with Jimmy Traina, he was asked whether he considered himself one of the locker room leaders and whether other wrestlers come to him for advice. MJF said he’s not the kind of guy who stands on the stage and talks to people, but he does believe age is just a number. Moreover, a lot of other wrestlers come to him for advice because he is good at his job.
I am not the type of guy that's gonna step on a soap box and say hey everybody listens to me. But yeah, people of my generation do come up to me for advice, people who are older than me come for advice. I think age is just a number in any industry and I am great at my job, that's why people want to hear my opinion.MJF on being a locker room leader
The Devil took some names of people who were not afraid to speak in front of people. He feels that guys like Brayn Danielson and Chris Jericho are locker room leaders. Danielson is one of the most important people in the AEW hierarchy, as he played an important part in Punk’s exit from the company. Although MJF denied being the leader, he is certainly the poster boy of AEW.
