Chicago Sky star rookie Angel Reese takes shots at media for painting her a villain after other WNBA players spoke up.

After being ‘villainized’, Angel Reese BURSTS amidst prevailing racism in WNBA

WNBA and Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese

During this remarkable WNBA season, one of the most talked-about narratives has been the supposed animosity toward Indiana Fever rookie sensation Caitlin Clark. It all traces back to the infamous NCAA Championship moment between her and fellow rookie, Chicago Sky star Angel Reese. As players and coaches began to speak out about the issue, the media also decided to address the controversy.

Noticing the developments, Angel Reese reposted one such discussion on one of the prominent networks onto her X account. She wrote this as a caption to that:

Y’all know I’ve been going through this for the last 2 years but was told save the tears’ & ‘stop playing victim’. Y’all a little late to the party and could have tried to put out this fire way before it started…

She was clear that the media did not pay heed to her words all this time and positioned her as the villain, as it benefitted the networks in their motive to make a narrative out of the rivalry.

Now that other players have spoken up, she wants to know why the media ignored what she said long back. According to Reese, they disregarded her words as if to suggest it came from jealousy.

She feels the media used her to be the fire in the rivalry against Caitlin Clark, all for the benefit of viewership and ratings. Reese wants the media to immediately take action, else the situation will spiral out of control.

Angel Reese started podcast to have a voice

The Chicago sky rookie suggested that the media never wanted to listen to what she felt. Even though she shed tears about it, the media portrayed it as if she invited it on herself. In her 2nd post, she said:

The media has benefited from my pain & me being villainized to create a narrative. They allowed this. This was beneficial to them. Now other players in this league are dealing with & experiencing the same things. This isn’t ok at all. Something has to change…This is why I started my podcast. To take my voice back and create the narrative of who I really am.

She mentioned that she started her podcast so that she could speak without being forced into a narrative. This will help her clear the situation from her perspective.

In her first episode, she revealed that Caitlin Clark’s fans posed a threat to her normal life. That is when the rest of the WNBA started to talk about what they are actually facing. Now with the 1st round playoffs over, many have come forward to join in and reveal what they have faced.

Expect many more to speak up about this issue as the days go by. But with the WNBA taking initiative to stop this from going too far, it seems finally Angel Reese’s efforts to get the point across are coming to fruition.
